Of course I will pray logic. God wants you back, He is a jealous God. He loves you with an everlasting love, much more than any human could possibly. He knows you, better than you know yourself. Pray without ceasing. Read the Holy Scriptures. Come near to God and He will come near to you.

I know it's an old thread, but I lost faith as a kid (no traumatic event or everything. ..it just slipped away with the belief in Santa, Easter Bunny, etc). I've been trying to get it back for 40 years, but I've also spent those years studying STEM disciplines so it's been difficult. I come here because I'm not quite ready to claim atheism, so I stay a Catholic agnostic

It sounds to me that you are not an atheist. But rather an agnostic theist. You think there may be a God but you are unsure. Are you familiar with the parable of the Prodigal Son?

LTS, I don't know what to tell you. I know I can pray for you in a very broad sense, but I believe it would help to know more about you and the troubles that haunt you.

I don't know. That is a phrase that I wish more people would use when they don't actually know. I think some people's perceived knowledge has led many people away from God. I don't know everything about the bible. There are some very learned people on this forum, and a lot of them know a lot. They can speak in multiple languages. They can quote parts of the bible I didn't know existed.

Believe it or not, my rambling has a point. I don't know everything, but I know it is easy to get sidetracked. When you look around this board and see all the dizzying intellectual conversations, remember you don't have to know everything. You start at the begining. Simple truths you can learn from simply reading the bible: God created everything. Jesus came to earth, died, was raised from the grave and is now in Heaven; all this was for you and me. The greatest gift is love. Start simple and build up.
Sometimes you have to forget things to begin again. I fell away for a long time. I came back and read the bible to learn, and guess what...without preconceived thoughts and notions of what I was trying to prove by the bible, I began to truly understand things and see them in ways I never had before.
I will pray for you as soon as I hit the reply button. I don't have all the answers, but I am here to talk with you as an equal. No brow beating. I have messed up too much to be high and mighty. But that's the awesome thing about Jesus's sacrifice. We don't have to be perfect. We don't have to know everything. We can disagree and try to figure things out as brothers and sisters. He knows we are imperfect and He has given us a way to survive eternally in spite of our shortcomings. So what shuould you do next?

Reply. Tell me and all the people reading this about yourself and the strugle that has you in it's grips. I still may not know after you tell us what is going on. But we can work on it together. Just you, me, and the internet.

LTS, RCF is right about where to look for answers about God and Jesus. God has an answer for you somewhere in His Word. Many years ago, as a young adult, I struggled with understanding how to "believe" in Jesus. I lived several miserable years in fear because I wanted to believe and be saved but I could not understand how to do that. I found my answer in the Gospel of John chapters 1-6. I am listing a link below to an article here on this board in which I explain how God brought me out of those years of fear & misery when I thought I would never know, for sure, that I had truly believed in Jesus and led me to genuine salvation and a lasting peace. Reading it might help you.

I left the faith and was an atheist for a while too, and came back to Christianity last fall...but I wasn't seeking Him. He rescued me, and He loves us so much, He will rescue all of us, and I believe it was Him who rescued me. Praying for you to have a peace about this, and all you need to do...is ask God to help you. Ask Jesus to lead the way, and He will.

I hope all is well with you. I noticed that you have described your faith as atheist and you stated that you are trying to get back with God. The Bible mentions numerous times that God is a God of Faith the first thing you should do is change your status to something other than atheist. When you do that and believe in your heart God takes notice and I do believe you will notice a difference. By faith we receive from God and By faith in Jesus Christ and his work on the Cross and Resurrection you are adopted into Gods family. The love of God is inexhaustible and he is waiting on you to return. Life can be really tough and sometimes we feel our prayers have not been answered and why would God let certain things happen, right? There is so much more to it than what we see. Keep trusting him. Go to him and repent and tell him you will trust him and ask him to give you the strength and grace to live for him and He will. He loves you and so do I. God Bless You!

You have exercised faith in reaching out and asking for help and prayers. God sees that and will honor that desire and honesty. Do not despair. He will not and has not abandoned you. You may have moved away but as you try to experiment--pray, reach out again--you will feel Him near. Let your troubles be made known to Him in raw form. Don't hold back. Then wait on him and He will strengthen your heart and guide your steps. Keep us posted. Let us know how else we can help here. I did a podcast on Finding Stillness in Jesus Christ. You could probably look online for it if you think it would help you.

I will pray for you, my friend. I wouldn't put all your hopes in your reasoning power though. We call our faith a "reasonable faith" because it leads you in his direction, but in the end, you will need to add that last bit of faith to make it. And frankly, I believe that's one of the things God is trying to do in our lives...to help us grow our faith. One of these days, you're going to be ripped out of this existence, and I believe God is trying to get us prepared for that day of destiny. My favorite verse..."Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him"...Job 13:15 (KJV). That's me in a nut shell.

But also know this...you say that you're trying to find God, but I assure you, he knows exactly where you are. My sincere prayers for you.

I can't say I agree with you. I fell and lost faith for years and went through some terrible things. My life was in shambles and I wasn't even looking for God but was needing him desperately and through my own reasoning and searching for connections in anthropology I found That God truly existed and the Father in his grace redeemed me through Jesus Christ. My friend I pray that the father softens your heart and opens your eyes and in the name of Jesus Christ your struggles will end.

If you want to get your faith back look into the Church of the Latter Day Saints.
Mormonism is the right faith to get you believing. Find a Mormon missionary near you and get put on the amazing path of Mormonism!
