I was flipping through the magazine "The Week" the other day and a certain article happened to catch my eye. The article in particular commented on a billboard that was erected around Christmas that was sponsored by "American Atheists." This vulgar advertisement sported the message "You KNOW it's a myth, this season celebrate reason." This proclamation was apparently in response to unrest among atheists of the region due to public Nativity Scenes and other displays of Christmas Spirit. By the time I finished the article i was thoroughly steamed; how could such a blatant assault on the Christian Faith be allowed to exist in a public place? I must have missed the memo that harsh bigotry is now permitted to be displayed for the masses. Please be kind enough to post your thoughts on this base defilement of civility. Thanks!

Well i agree with you about Santa and that we are all hypocrites in some capacity but I believe that this billboard was more of an attack on the story of Jesus' birth and seemed very inappropriate.

It is an attack and it's inappropriate, but they have a right to say it. As Christians, we are to suffer them and by grace love them.

The issue with the nativity scenes and such is one of public buildings, not one of the content per se. The government cannot endorse a specific religion, which means you can't have the 10 commandments in a courthouse or a nativity at city hall. That doesn't mean private groups can't rent a billboard, and if I have to drive past literally dozens of church billboards telling me I'm going to hell when I drive to another city, I think churchgoers can deal with one that they don't agree with.

I do not see it any worse than the bigotry showed towards liberals and democrats by republicans and conservatives.

Well yes it is obviously a right but i merely was questioning whether it was necessary. PurpleDolphin i do not wish to represent the racists and radicals who made those signs and were brash enough to post them on billboards. I just wish to see a bit more civility on BOTH sides.

Yes, I would like to see more civility as well. I just get frustrated when these so called "atheist attack" billboards are mentioned and not derogatory Christian ones. There was a story recently about how some Christians were finding signs that read "Millions are good without god" offensive. I don't understand how it can be said that Christians are under attack all of the time, when there have been much more offensive billboards put up by Christian groups. You just don't see them in the media as much, and I wonder why that is or why Christians who don't agree with the messages aren't speaking out against them more.

Well before one worries about the other side shouldn't one get their own side in order first?

Yes, I wonder as well why christains always seem to be crying pursecution at this stuff. If god wanted to show us he'd just send thunderbolts to destroy them all at once.

To address the OP, I suggest you save your outrage for something like genocide, war, rape etc than a stupid billboard. Don't you think Jesus would want you to focus on those things instead?
