  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I can't believe I didn't even think to bring up this point before.... Look up the band "Junkyard Prophets".

They're a Christian Rock Band that got into trouble a few months ago by playing a show in a high school. They separated the girls and boys, and preached to them about how women should be submissive and subservient to men, and spread hate speech about homosexuals.

They are a part of the "You can run but you cannot hide" Christian youth ministry founded by Bradlee Dean, who has made statements along the lines of:

1. Gays and Lesbians should be imprisoned
2. Gay Men molest an average of 117 children before they get caught
3. Muslim nations that execute gays are more moral than American Christians.

In your example, they use an image of a burning church. To me, that's no more than a protest image, much like burning a flag. Obviously I don't agree with actually burning churches down, and I'd be surprised if that's what they're advocating. If they are advocating burning churches, then I would denounce them and call them a danger to society. I'd be inclined to believe they are making a statement against Christianity in the same way that burning a flag is a statement against a particular country.

They also couldn't use the image of a burning cross, as that was already taken by that "fine Christian organization" known as the KKK.

In this bands case, these are clear messages on what they actually advocate. And it's some sick and twisted immoral garbage.

God apparently makes everyone and everything. He therefore made people with the ability to sin, therefore ensuring many of them would. If God didn't want sin, he could have never invented it in the first place.

Even more of a logical conundrum.... If everything God made is Good, and God made Sin, then Sin is Good.... So why is he punishing people for it?

Every sin happened because God made it possible, and every person that God made that would sin, he bears some responsibility for. That's how he made them.

first, just because we have the ability to kill doesn't mean that we are ensured that we will.

secondly, sin is a lack of virtue there for God never made sin. In other words it is a lack of good. A negative

Answer the question. Do you think the Constitution was based on Christian principles.... and yes, it's totally valid to establishing a point I'm trying to make.

then you can make your point without veering off of topic.

But why is he creating people capable, and in some cases inclined to lack that virtue? He is clearly capable of creating people without sin, yet he did not.

Did the ban Aiden or any of those bands actually encourage church burnings or do it themselves?

The website labels the song as the “atheist anthem.”

Among the lyrics: “Love how the burn your synagogues, love how they torch your holy books.”

The group is no stranger to strong lyrics. Another of their songs says, (bless do not curse) your God, (bless do not curse) your faith in the end. There’s no religion.”

fox also interviewed them and found out....

Griffith said that particular song would not be performed at the festival, but defended the video of burning churches.

and

...why is there a video of the band performing in front of burning churches on the “Rock Beyond Belief” website?

The Atheist Anthem, eh? Must be really profound seeing as I've never heard of the group or their song.

Either way, the point remains, what are you trying to prove? One band with some strong and controversial images/lyrics is not indicative of an entire demographic of people.

To even attempt to make the case that it is is incredibly prejudicial.

I just watched the video and read the lyrics. It's kind of a weird video and not really my brand of rock.... The lyrics are quite well written though. I think only an idiot would consider them to be advocating or promoting the idea of people going out and burning churches.

However, if that's what you're actually up in arms about, there's only one piece of advice I can offer: Grow some thicker skin.

"growing thicker skin" doesn't keep an arsonist out of jail.

Point out one person involved with this story that is a convicted arsonist, and you have an argument.

Until then, you're just spreading prejudice and slander.

here is one for you, you asked...

I asked for an example of something tied to the band or the festival promoting or endorsing church burning.

The story you linked has nothing to do with the band or the festival, and is therefore irrelevant. Furthermore, seeing as the burnings were committed in February 2010, and the song you are blaming them on was released in March 2011, that might toss a small monkey wrench into your argument.

And again, the point I raised earlier was that we don't know the guy was an Atheist. Owning a book on the topic does not mean you follow that belief. I own Christian books, and even have "The Reason For God" by Timothy Keller sitting right on my computer desk.... does that mean I'm a Christian?

He also had books on Demons, which would indicate an interest in the supernatural as well. I don't know too many Atheists that think Demons are even worth reading up on.

why aren't you emailing the band telling them that as an athiest you despise their message of hate and wish them to be more loving (like christians)

Irony... meter... EXPODING

Gradyll, just to get another perspective on your posts, I showed this thread to my wife and one of her friends (both Christians).

They both commented that they can't believe a Christian would say the things you are. They said you were incredibly rude and insensitive.

I'm telling you this because I don't like seeing anyone being a jerk, and I'm hoping that this will make you think.

Thought i would throw you a little curve ball,of a different perspective.

I suppose that would be a curveball.... actually I'm not sure how to label that one....

Please explain how God can be an Atheist? I'm a little puzzled.

In this sense:
Isa 44:6 Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.

Yet GOD loves people[my wretched self, and atheist's included] and things infinitely lower than HIMSELF. Which is 180% opposite of human atheist's. GOD is HUMBLE,but men are PROUD.

And..... how exactly does that make him an Atheist?
