I, too, have been on this board for over 5 years. I never had any trouble with over-stringent rules, though I have experienced that problems they caused in debate and question threads.

I know quite well that many people here don´t like me, for what faith I profess - that they see me as someone to preach at, not to talk to.
Still, I have stayed on and contributed to this forum.

If you want me out, I´ll leave. If you want to "outreach" to me, you´ll have to find me.

I voted for option 1. It would bother me quite a bit if CF were to become Christians-only, and not just because that would mean I and the hundreds of other non-Christians here would be excluded from now on. There are a couple other considerations also.

First, in the forum where I’m most active (creation/evolution), a lot of the people who contribute most are atheists and agnostics. (As well as a few Deists, such as myself and Moogoob.) Since the discussions there are usually about science, there’s no reason why a person would have to be a Christian in order to contribute. Preventing non-Christians from posting in that section of CF would cut out a large portion of the people who currently make it so informative.

I also really don’t like the idea of this forum’s rules extending not just to what people do, but what they believe. (And that’s what this would be; it would be a rule against participating if you aren’t a Christian.) In every other organization I can think of, a person’s beliefs only matter inasmuch as they affect the person’s actions. The notion of there being an rule about what beliefs are allowed here brings to mind the Thought Police from Orwell’s 1984—how much effort would the administrators here take to uncover what’s in the hearts of however many nonbelievers misrepresent their beliefs in order to participate here?

I’ve always thought of CF as a forum designed with Christians in mind, where all of the rules are based on preventing the sorts of things that Christians would find offensive, but where non-Christians such as myself can also post in order to interact with a Christian community. I hope it stays that way.

I cannot support this poll, it is fatally flawed. I know from my church planning experience that you can't ever offer people a choice between real change and familiar static - they will almost always choose the familiar comfort of what was - even if it leads to death. This poll's option #2 is not the way of Christ - it is the way of man.

I can't work at a CF just like the old one but with less opportunity to spread the Gospel. I had to find time last night to compose some PMs between IMing a suicidal teen - CF should be static enough that I can focus on that - but everyone wants to know what I think about X political thing - and if we can't fix our eyes on Jesus and move forward, we will never ever get to the challenge of ministry.

So, when #2 is chosen as the new CF, and the domesday book is written...I will ensure my name is recorded on the side of those who are found unworthy...because that is where the ministry is.

I always like it when the pastors are non-judgmental. :sigh:

Christians are to be the light and draw people in, not push them out. That's my main issue.

John 8:12
[ The Validity of Jesus' Testimony ] When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

Matthew 5:13
[ Salt and Light ] "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.

Colossians 4:6
Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

I selected 2. I came here in hopes that this would be a Christian safe harbor.
Exactly thats what I came here for to and after receiveing a nasty racist PM (thankfully the mod took care of it for me) was when it hit rock bottom for me like I didn't sign up for that.

Will someone tell me why this doesn't seem a blatant attempt by the old well known Mod cliques to enforce their version of Christianity down everyones throats?

They want a return to the "old ways" not for some ministering message but for the almost police state level of powers complete with baiting sockpuppets and Warning/Banning power.

I see how we already have the no Mormons as Mods comment a couple of times.

WHAT the heck is so hard to figure out?? LEAVE the forums open then...if that is what people want...make a 'safe' place for Christian fellowship...and TAKE ALL unbelievers off staff...This IS a Christian site and should be run by them. HOW difficult does this have to be?? Sheesh..

Soooo if you go some place and hang out for a while and then find out you are good enough to be there to get preached at but are to evil to be anything more then a second class citizen there, would you go "wow, that makes me want to become one of them!"?
tulc(sort of doubts it) :sorry:

If you say, "Hey, come on in, you're one of us!" ... but don't give any further offer to change on an individual level, what have you accomplished?

There's a balance between the two things that needs to be found. I've never thought internet evangelism over a message board could do much, both from my own experience and from what it is. As a ministry to help edify the body of Christ, I can see the benefits of that.

Will someone define Christian?

(And the Nicene creed does NOT define Christian by the way)

I will use one of my favorite quotes.....

"Christianity without discipleship is always Christianity without Christ." Dietrich Bonhoeffer

I've only recently joined this site, and I like it as it as, so I'm not going to vote either way.

Its useful to communicate with other christians, although sometimes I get annoyed by people who turn the discussion into a slanging match, but I also think its good that non-christians can ask questions about our faith and see what kinds of things we talk about. The aim should be about transparency or else how can we encourage people to become believers?

I've skipped about 20 pages and probably won't have time to catch up today. Can anyone tell me if Erwin has clarified what "Christians only" means?

Are those voting for option #2 voting for the explusion of non-Christians (and does that include non-Nicene affirming followers of Christ)? Are they voting for things to go back to exactly what they were before the reforms? Are they voting for allowing whatever the board defines as non-Christians to stay but in an even more restrictive environment than what we had before the reforms?

Or does it matter?
