I do not accept the whole preterist package, but their theology (that the last days/end time prophecies of the NT or at least, many of them - were fulfilled during the generation of the Apostles and at the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple in 70 AD) does have good scriptural support. For instance

Matthew 10.23 When they persecute you in this city, flee to another. For assuredly, I say to you, you will not have gone through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes.
Matthew 16.28 Assuredly, I say to you, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.
Matthew 24.1-2, 16-22 Then Jesus went out and departed from the temple, and His disciples came up to show Him the buildings of the temple. 2 And Jesus said to them, Do you not see all these things? Assuredly, I say to you, not one stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown down. . . . then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his house. And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes. But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath. For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elects sake those days will be shortened.
Luke 21.31-32So you also, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near. Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all things take place.
John 21.20-21 Then Peter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following, who also had leaned on His breast at the supper, and said, Lord, who is the one who betrays You? Peter, seeing him, said to Jesus, But Lord, what about this man? Jesus said to him, If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me.
1 Corinthians 7.29 But this I say, brethren, the time is short, so that from now on even those who have wives should be as though they had none.
Hebrews 10.25, 37 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching . . . For yet a little while, and He who is coming will come and will not tarry.
James 5.8-9 You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand. Do not grumble against one another, brethren, lest you be condemned. Behold, the Judge is standing at the door!
1 Peter 4.7 But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers.
1 John 2.18 Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour.
You do not have to agree with preterism but these scriptures, if they are to be relegated to a yet-futre time need to have a better explanation that Hal Lindsey and Tim LaHaye have offered.Matthew 16.28 Assuredly, I say to you, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.
