  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Years ago I had a special talent that was God given to me and something I cherished greatly however because of a sin in my life I believe God has taken it away and I feel remorseful. Even though I had asked in sincere prayer for God to give me back my said talent so far my prayer has not come through. The saying as it goes has much truth to it that it is you dont know what you've got till it is taken away. I know that God is a merciful God one whos slow to anger and in whom forgiveness abounds. I know I am already forgiven as a child of God and I am deeply grateful for my Lord Jesus Christ. I also believe God always has my best interests in heart working all things for good and I will try to read and follow the Bible more often to grow my seed of faith. My question is how can I please God in a way which would allow me to have my prayers for a gift answered?

Is this gift something which cannot be learned, such as music?

Repentance (1 John 1:9). I doubt that your gift has been taken away (unless you've permanently turned your back on Him - Hebrews 6:4-6. But, since you're remorseful that's not your case.). It's possible that you've just lost communion with Him and feel that way, but He's always there. So just repent and get back with Him. Peace in Christ :).

If the gift was actually from God, then it is irrevocable.

Romans 11:29 "For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable."

I think that verse is speaking about the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, and being called into the Ministry.

No, it is actually talking about God's promises to Israel, but the rule still applies to any Gift of God.

Go ahead and read Romans 11 for yourself. Its about Israel.

Why then doesn't everything in the Chapter apply to you, you can't just pull out the things you like and chuck the rest, it either all applies or it all doesn't apply, because the verse which says

"The gifts and calling of God" is then out of it's context, it does not apply to you.

This is true God does not revoke his gifts but we if we fail to live up to the requirements we may lose out on them.

In my case, the gift I lost for a short period to a bout of suicidal sentiments was restored after I came out of it.

My advice is don't worry about it. Keep running the good race with or without the gift.
