  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

God understands our prayers even when we struggle to find the words to say them.

Psalms 106:48
48 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting: and let all the people say, Amen. Praise ye the Lord.

I have heard protestants explain it as the Pharisees were hard hearted, God appeared in the flesh before them and they refused him and cared more about men's opinions and their standings.
Peace DeerGlow, I'm still trying to find a biblical explanation for the six forms of the unforgivable sin. I've posted the question on Catholic Answers Forum and have not yet received a reply. There was a webpage I stumbled across, a long time that provided a great biblical explanation of this understanding of the unpardonable sin, but it looks like it's been taken down. I'll do meditative read on it tonight and get back to you. There is something to be said about the fact that after the episode, right after seeing Jesus cast out demons, and then accusing Him of casting them out by Beelzebub, this happens:

"Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered him, saying: Master we would see a sign from thee."
-Matthew 12:38 DRV

I'm still praying for you, DeerGlow!

Deerglow, there's several interpretations of the Scripture about blasphemy.

Listen - just being concerned about this reflects your true heart. We know - you know - that Yeshua is in the heart business There's a host of Scriptures that say so including "And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:7
(Psa 9:1, Prov 3:5, 4:23, 23:26++++).

Peace DeerGlow, if you're still worried about this, the unpardonable sin, is simply Final Impenitence a refusal to repent, even unto death. Final Impenitence manifests itself in six forms:

-Despair
-Obstinacy in sin
-Knowingly resisting the truth
-Spiritual envy
-General impenitence
-Presumption

I'm considering doing a blog entry on the unforgivable sin, for you and anyone who is interested in this, for now, I'll continue to pray for you.

Here's a few passages to consider from the same chapter in Matthew's Gospel, that refers to the unforgivable sin:

"Behold my servant whom I have chosen, my beloved in whom my soul hath been well pleased. I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgement to the Gentiles.
He shall not contend, nor cry out, neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets.
The bruised reed he shall not break: and the smoking flax he shall not extinguish: till he send forth judgement unto victory.
And in his name the Gentiles shall hope." - Matthew 12:18-20 DRV quoting Isaiah 42:1

"And when an unclean spirit is gone out of a man he walketh through dry places seeking rest, and findeth none.
Then he saith: I will return into my house from whence I came out. And coming he findeth it swept and garnished.
Then he goeth, and taketh with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is made worse than the first." - Matthew 12:43-45 DRV Let this encourage you, not discourage you DeerGlow! Don't let Satan win, keep fighting! Listen to God, and let Him guide you to where you need to be!

In the name of, the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
Amen.

O my God, relying on your almighty power and infinite mercy and promises, I hope to obtain pardon of my sins, the help of your grace, and life everlasting through the merits of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Redeemer.
Amen.

In the name of, the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
Amen.
