Matthew 7
But even beyond that, what if I was a very devoted and loving follower of Christ, but what I asked for was not part of God's will for my life, therefore he would not give it to me... isn't that proposing a contradiction to this passage of the scriptures?
I've always been told that God can give us three answers when asked something from him: yes, no, or wait. But doesn't this passage suggest otherwise? It doesn't say "For everyone who asks MIGHT receive, and he who seeks MIGHT find, and to him who knocks it MIGHT be opened," but it says "For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened."
I find it hard to believe that I could be given anything I ask for. Not that I don't believe it can be done by God, because I believe and have faith that God can do all things. But, I don't believe I could be given what I ask for because maybe I don't deserve it.7 Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? 11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!
But even beyond that, what if I was a very devoted and loving follower of Christ, but what I asked for was not part of God's will for my life, therefore he would not give it to me... isn't that proposing a contradiction to this passage of the scriptures?
