Serious questions:

Is England 4 countries in one?

If so, does this cause contention with the other three countries?

Do Scotland, Wales, and Ireland have their own capitals and governments?

Why was King James VI also King James I?

What do my questions have to do with physics?

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and NORTHERN Ireland (*twitch*) is 4 countries in one - England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

And they have their own governments to an extent. Scotland and Wales have devolved governments (in Edinburgh and Cardiff), so they have local representatives to enact legislation that affects them etc while still sitting as MPs in London, which does irritate the English somewhat, but I can't say I know what the exact arrangement of it is for certain.

Northern Ireland is still somewhat messed up, as far as I remember there is a devolved government ongoing at the moment in Belfast, but it has been suspended on occasion when things get a bit hairy.

Why was King James VI also King James I?

James VI of Scotland went on to become James I of England also.

What do my questions have to do with physics?

Britain is an awesome place for it? (I'm somewhat biased)

Thanks for the 411, Cabal ---

I remember playing in a Euchre Tournament, and someone called a Welsh guy an Englishman, and was promptly corrected.

I looked it up, and I believe the Welsh are the ancestors of the Celts, who are considered the first people to inhabit the isles.

(Someone promptly correct me if I'm wrong, please.)

Yeah, that's gonna happen. Apologies for the allcaps "NORTHERN!!1" there, you probably weren't implying this in retrospect but I'm staggered there are still people in Europe, nevermind elsewhere that don't know that most of Ireland is now an independent nation for the best part of a century - so yeah, I'm a bit trigger-happy when it comes to making sure PEOPLE KNOW THAT :p

As far as I know, I know of other ethnic groups in that area, but the Celts were either the original group to settle in that area or the other names I know are subgroups or diverged descendants from Celts.

Wanna know something weird I just found on wiki?

Galatia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Maybe the descendants of an Irishman found his way into a certain church 300 years later ;)

Hmmm, you're one of those people. :D

Will you do my physics homework? :D
If you post a physics question (or any other), I'll do my best to answer it ;). Homework or not, I like flexing my phenomenal physicy muscles. Post away!

Mwahahahahahahahahah! :ebil:

Why is it better to have round manhole covers than square ones?

This is supposedly used by a very well-known company as an interview question for prospective employees.

For two reasons:

  1. They are easy to displace --- you can roll them around once you get them off.
  2. They are easy to replace --- you don't have to align the corners, just pop them back in place.
(That was the subject of a Reader's Digest article many moons ago.)

In the most concise way possible, how would you define quantum physics?

In its simplest form - on short length scales, energy must be treated as a system of discrete particles, not as a continuous stream.
