  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I'm beginning to be a little cautious as of late whenever a girl gives me her phone number at the dance club and is all like, "Okay. My number is 555-,umm, 5555. Yeah. Call me."

Man, the Rejection Hotline's number is much less subtle across the pond.

Imagine the poor lass who's number really is 555-5555! She must never get to, erm, lead the cow to pasture.

What I really am beginning to hate is when you give a babe your phone number and she writes it on the bottom of her shoe with some chalk.

It's like, okay, so are you and me dating?
Yes.

Is it possible to do a MacGyver and make a bomb to blow up a simple door lock out of a box of Kleenex, a bottle of douche, flint, lemon juice, car battery acid, tin foil, two dixie cups, your shoe strings, a potato, my underwear, a pack of red playing cards, um, a rock, a live active wire from an overhead lamp, and some toothpicks?

I could use some real life help on this.

Sounds like it would be easier to find a hammer. :)

Telephone numbers with the prefix 555 are widely used for fictitious telephone numbers in North American television shows, films, computer games, and other media.
Not all numbers that begin with 555 are fictional—for example, 555-1212 is one of the standard numbers for directory assistance throughout the United States and Canada. In fact, only 555-0100 through 555-0199 are now specifically reserved for fictional use, with the other numbers having been released for actual assignment. How exactly this will intersect with the many uses of 555-2368 (one of the more commonly used fake numbers)[1] by AT&T and other telephone companies, remains unknown.

Oh wiki so full of useless info.

I recall hearing that the FCC sent memos out encouraging the entertainment industry to use 555 for fictitious numbers after the popular song "867-5309/Jenny" caused people with that number to get lots of prank calls.

Okay, so a friend gave me this picture.

Don't bother trying to Google it because you won't find this image anywhere.

skating003.jpg

Okay, first off, it was taken in Grand Haven, Michigan.

She completely insists that this is a water wave that suddenly froze.

Honestly?

I mean, like is that even possible? It seems so very unlikely to me.

But yeah, I still can't explain this picture to her.

Anyway, that pic was taken on a lake so there's nothing but surrounding ice water everywhere in what you're seeing on this.

It doesn't look like a frozen wave of water to me. That seems unlikely, because if it were cold enough to freeze that quickly it would be to cold for liquid water.

My first impression was an iced over airplane, but I can't really tell from the one picture.

I agree with Gracchus, it doesn't look like a liquid wave that suddenly froze, even if supercooling could work.

Did she say that she actually physically saw the liquid wave become solid? Or that that was just her hypothesis? Because I'm sceptical as to the former...

It looks like an ice floe, or something the wind's gradually built up.
