  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Geez, you are right. I never even noticed the scratch marks. *tells brain to cut back on the automatic image processing*
It was kind of obvious for me, but I didn't get any of the rest. Not even after you told about the apple.

Do you agree with what Saint Augustine Wrote in his Commentary on Genesis (Chapter 19)

Saint Augustine said:
Usually, even a non-Christian knows something about the earth, the heavens, and the other elements of this world, about the motion and orbit of the stars and even their size and relative positions, about the predictable eclipses of the sun and moon, the cycles of the years and the seasons, about the kinds of animals, shrubs, stones, and so forth, and this knowledge he holds to as being certain from reason and experience. Now, it is a disgraceful and dangerous thing for an infidel to hear a Christian, presumably giving the meaning of Holy Scripture, talking non-sense on these topics; and we should take all means to prevent such an embarrassing situation, in which people show up vast ignorance in a Christian and laugh it to scorn. The shame is not so much that an ignorant individual is derided, but that people outside the household of the faith think our sacred writers held such opinions, and, to the great loss of those for whose salvation we toil, the writers of our Scripture are criticized and rejected as unlearned men. If they find a Christian mistaken in a field which they themselves know well and hear him maintaining his foolish opinions about our books, how are they going to believe those books in matters concerning the resurrection of the dead, the hope of eternal life, and the kingdom of heaven, when they think their pages are full of falsehoods on facts which they themselves have learnt from experience and the light of reason? Reckless and incompetent expounders of holy Scripture bring untold trouble and sorrow on their wiser brethren when they are caught in one of their mischievous false opinions and are taken to task by those who are not bound by the authority of our sacred books. For then, to defend their utterly foolish and obviously untrue statements, they will try to call upon Holy Scripture for proof and even recite from memory many passages which they think support their position, although “they understand neither what they say nor the things about which they make assertion.”

Does distilled water freeze sooner than water with trace elements in it?

And speaking of that -- (and this is a serious question) -- does that water they sell in the stores really come from artesian springs in France and Switzerland?

Uh, sure, some of those atoms which make up the water came through those springs, if you go back long enough. Some are from Williams Shakespeare's body, too. ;)

Distilled water is actually more likely to not freeze at all, and instead undergo 'supercooling' - basically, without any deformation, like a crack in the glass or a bit of grit, there's nothing around which crystals can form. If the water can't crystallise, it can't freeze - and it stays as very cold, very sluggish, but ultimately still liquid water. Give it a shake, and the vortexes you create will serve as crystallisation points.

Or, watch this:

YouTube - Supercooled Water

The same can happen if you heat it up: with no obvious way to boil, you just get very hot water. However, once one part finally boils, it catalyses boiling of the molecules around it, and this 'sphere of boiling' expands very rapidly. In short, boom.

Yes, once it's been processed in large, artificial factories, and stored for God knows how long in mass-produced plastic contains - containers which leech their plastic-y goodness into the bottle.

Bottled water is the ultimate con. Tap water is better for you than bottle water: it has higher nutritional and medicinal value, its taste is qualitatively superior to bottled water (simply because it's not stagnant), it's more environmentally friendly (no nasty bottles or manufacturing footprint), and it's simply cheaper.

It's also Hitler's pee. Ick.

But then, it's also, literally, the body of Christ - assuming he eat and metabolised like we do.

Interesting fact: any given atom in your body will be there for about seven years. In other words, your entire body replaces all its atoms every sevens years or so.

Very interesting -- thanks for the 411!

Any time!

What's the 411? Is that related to 911?
Yes -- it is synonymous with the word "information".

Here, we dial 411 for information.

We pick up the phone, hit 4-1-1, the operator comes on and asks, "What city, please?"

We tell her, then after a moment, she says, "Go ahead"; and we say, "Pizza Hut" (or whatever), and she'll say, "I have four Pizza Huts listed. What is the address?"

etc.

Ah, cheers  Over here we have several like that, the best being 118-118...

YouTube - 118 118 Mummy Advert

411 is information services in most of the US. When I was a kid, it was 555-1212.
I thought '555-xxxx' was a fake number used in movies so they don't have people mass-calling real numbers? :p

He's right, but it's not as good as 4-1-1.

In 555-1212, you have to know the area code.

Thus, you would have to dial (area code) 555-1212.

Los Angeles, for example, would be: 213-555-1212.

Just dialing 555-1212 will give you local information.

In 4-1-1, the operator asks you, "What city, please?"

No, "411" is not synonymous with "information". :p
