I emailed her today and (very nicely I hoped) reminded her of our conversation, in addition to the statements made here (no, I didn't mention CF specifically) Apparently, and I'm not going to go into any specifics, she was having a multiple case of a bad day, and just kind of (and I quote) lost it. She admitted that I was correct, apologized for her rudeness, and then asked in her email if I had ever thought about taking a teaching position (she is aware of my background as a technical trainer and eventual training manager at Sykes Enterprises), to which I (hopefully) kindly said that that will never likely happen. To say that blacks and Asians are racial groups, don't we have to define race first of all? 'We know it when we see it' doesn't really cut it in science I imagine.

Arguably, a race is a distinct sub-group of human. I'm tempted to say 'breed' or 'sub-species', but they have horrible overtones. For example, white people are arguably a different breed to black people, given that there are distinct racial characteristics. Obviously it's not a perfect split, since people actually exist in a spectrum from whiter-than-white to blacker-than-black. But, like I said, discrimination would only be possible if there were characteristics people could discriminate against.

I've seen that happen. I called in dead because I thought it was the end of the world. I mean seriously, even in the biblical hail and fire events, thunder and lightning was never described during a snowstorm. Im pretty sure they would have written than messed up stuff into their scrolls. (yeah yeah yeah, hail fire got nothing on something like this )

Hmm, good question actually. I suspect it's because the severe cold that causes a blizzard doesn't make for lightening, since lightning requires cool (but liquid) water to interact with ice crystals to generate the static charge. So, in a blizzard, too much water vapour crystallises into ice instead of water drops, so not enough charge is built up.

That said, you can get blizzards that are lucky enough to be able to generate a charge, called thundersnow.

Nah, she's in her 50's or so, happened a few months ago during the school year. Granted she is a 5th grade teacher, but you'd think she would have immediately understood the symmetry of a simple equation (although, see above she did apologize).

Well, race may be hard to define, but there's no denying that it has some basis. After all, we can tell whether someone is black, white, Asian, Caucasian, etc, to a degree.

Just because something has a basis does not mean it correspond to a physical reality. The Caloric theory has a basis it is still made up nonsense.

Racial segregation wouldn't be possible if there weren't real characteristics by which people could be segregated.

Of course racial segregation is possible. But that is because there are almost infinite possibilities of defining race. Personally I want to define race on the colour of facial hair and marriage should be only between people of the same facial hair colour*.

I'm not saying it's right, or that it's even relevant in the modern world, just that we can't deny the existence of something for fear of the Political Correctness police.

My view is not PC. The PC view would be something like "Derp people should have the same should have the same rights as anyone else". My view is "Derp people don't exist".

*Obviously we might have a problem here since women tend not to have facial hair but I would assume that evolution would take care of that eventually.

Unless I'm very much mistaken, I never said it was appropriate, merely that it can be, and is, done. I know of several ways to commit suicide painlessly, but that doesn't mean it's polite dinner conversation.
