Introvert. I can come across as extroverted in social situations (I'm what Laurie Helgoe, author of "Introvert Power", refers to as an "accessible introvert"), but, at the end of the day, I prefer solitude to socializing.

Introvert. Except with my husband.

told husband I'm introverted & he was surprised
he thought I'm extroverted

ha, after all these years, he doesn't know all about me

child took personality test for a summer camp so we all took it; we're all different personalities

The lockdown did not bother me at all. I had just retired, and retirement does not bother me at all, either.

I'm an introvert--I can be completely happy all day long with my own company. I've known that for half a century.

But introversion is not a handicap. I can also socialize with people, particularly when I have something known in common with them that we can share. Fortunately, I have interests in a variety of disparate topics, so I can converse for a while in a lot of different groups.

But unlike an extrovert, I'm not being energized by that, I'm being depleted, so I'll be one of the earliest to bid the crowd adieu.

I'd like to tell you which I am, but I'm too shy.
There is nothing wrong with being an intrevert and you have nothing to explain it is very honest to be quiet and no need to be shy. You are loved by the lord and you deserve to be heard. So speak your mind and receive the world for you are in it till the Lord returns.

Thank you for your kind post, but my post was intended as a humorous observation, rather than an accurate expression of my character. I guess I need to do more work on the humour.

The introvert-extrovert spectrum, in my opinion, oversimplifies an individuals reaction to social situations. Thus, in a scenario where I have nothing meaningful to contribute, I would lean strongly to introvertion. In contrast, place me in a hostile situation where I can modify perceptions through my actions and I'll be as extrovert as required.

Yes, I misunderstood you and I see you are a strong person as I am in a given situation I am quiet till I need to be loud.

I agree. I was in leadership positions in the Air Force and in civilian life. Of course I had something in common with my team--getting the mission accomplished--so I had no trouble communicating with them.
But as an introvert, I did not feel a need to be the only person talking, so I liberally asked for their ideas on different issues. They appreciated that, and supported me even more as a leader because I listened to them and allowed them to contribute substantially to how the mission was accomplished.

I read some article about introverts and it said that they are much more hard working because they don't spend time chatting in coffee room with other extroverts but they are spending their time working instead, so it's good to remember good qualities of introversion which is usually seen as a negative light in our society.

Cliches exist because they often reflect an aspect of reality. A couple come to mind that reinforce the points you've made. I don't recall who first said these and they are paraphrases of the original, but still useful.
  • "I never learned anything when I was talking, only when I was listening."
  • "There is a reason we have two ears, but only one mouth."
When teaching sales techniques to novices (and even more so to experienced hands) the biggest challenge was getting them to accept that the key to selling is listening, else you will have no idea what you should be saying to your potential customer.

Ambivert. I’m comfortable being alone but naturally outgoing and extroverted.

I guess my question to you is which situation is more energizing to you?

I'm similar but I'm drained in groups, the larger the group the faster the drain, while being alone energizes me so I consider myself an introvert.

People can discuss their feelings based on experiences,s regarding their own nature and how it has affected their lives.
I am extremely introverted. I took a personality test and I'm 96% introverted. People just don't get me. I am perfectly happy being alone and don't need to be around people. In fact I crave solitude and don't really get much. When I do it's like heaven. When I was a kid I was ostracized by my peers, never fit in. I was painfully shy. When I was in the 2nd grade I would go and get under this table in the classroom. It was a Quaker school and the teachers were very concerned about me. They told my parents I needed to see a psychiatrist. I went to him for months and I shudder to think about what my parents had to spend. The psychiatrist told my parents I hated my father and had emotional problems. That wasn't it at all. I just couldn't take all the stimulation of the other kids running and shouting and generally being kids. I spent long hours by myself and this was distressing to people. In that same Quaker school, I was always in trouble. I brought a little rubber martian toy I had gotten out of one of those coin machines. It had a sucker on the bottom so you could stick it on things. I loved it. I got in trouble because the martian had a ray gun in his hand. They put me in this back room of the school house and left me there alone all day long. They thought it was a punishment but to me it was heaven.

That is pretty darn introvert I must say. Where did you take the test. I took one, and there was no percentages there. Was just a long tirade of critisism, and judging me all wrong. The questions was pointless and hypothetical, so kind of guessing. Was just about work mostly, and going to museums and being loud, and overspeaking others in familysettings and with friends. I have never had a job apart from a 3 hour trial bartending. So how can I answer what I would do at work, in a projectmeeting where I am projectmanager!!!! Did not make a family, so those are kind of pointless questions too. Do not go to museums and get loud. And do like solitude, therefore I am introvert.

Did have a few positive lines at the end of the judgement.

"Learn to look after your own interests — everyone else does, so why not you? You too have desires, dreams and opinions — express them. If you think that by saying no or thinking differently from others that you will no longer be loved, it just isn’t so. Others will learn to respect you because you respect yourself."

I got 47 on a test that kind of could work, but it was obvious what they really asked for, behind the questions stated. The tests are worthless. Doing a depressiontest also.

The psychology behind the test seems to be able to diagnose everybody as depressed to prescribe drugs, and generate patients for psychhiatrists. Questions about feeling tired, empty, sleeping little and poorly. Everybody who have a job does feel more tired when workload increase, and they do get more empty and do feel tired at those times. And how can a christian answer the question about wishing they were dead, or thinking about death often truthfully. When we keep talking about heaven, and what salvation is? I have discussed that daily here for over a week, and verses about how to live right, so it will not be hell for me. So, every christian person who ponders, or prays daily, will be clinically diagnosed as depressed. I got 43 on that test. But really think those questions are unhelpful, only to make people misdiagnosed. I checked often in the boxes, but it is not what the vague question was seeking. Bogus tests. I do not even know the scale of the score, 43 of what?

I think people have a right to feel depressed with all the bad things going on in the world and to think there are people that profit from other's problems never mind there is a better world to come all the best.

I don't remember what test I took that gave me the percentage. It was an online test. I've taken several over the years and the results are always the same. I read a profile of my personality type, INTP, and it was scary how well they knew me. I remember one question from that test: Would you rather go to a party or stay home and read a good book. My answer was a resounding yes, I would stay home with a good book. I have a real hard time being in crowds. I just get very anxious and feel that I need to get away. I can stand it for a few hours but then I have to get going. Part of that is that I don't like to sit still for long. I've got so many things I want to do and accomplish. I hate small talk, that is true. I'm perfectly happy for days and days without other people around. I could seriously have a chance at winning that alone show where they go out into some really remote wilderness as long as I could take a few woodworking tools. I'd be so involved in building things and projects that I'd probably be annoyed when the boat came to pick me up after I won. But I'm not done with my cabin yet! Come back in a month. I'm not jesting here. But, even I, as introverted as I am, would not want to live that way permanently. I do value relationships with others. I'd be rejuvenated and recharged for a long time after that is all. Introvert vs. extrovert just means you recharge your batteries differently. My wife is about 50/50. I can tell when she needs to have social time with others. She can tell when I need to withdraw.

So I don't know how much value there is in such tests. I took one in high school that was to help you choose a career. It said that I should be an airplane mechanic. That would be one of the most horrific jobs for me. First I'm horrible at mechanical things like engines and repairing things. Second I have OCD and my main obsession is that I will hurt someone by accident. I remember once on a construction job I had to set up a huge scaffolding. I was so worried that I had forgotten a brace or a pin and the whole thing would come crashing down with people on it that I couldn't sleep and had to drive back to the job site in the middle of the night to check. Of course, as soon as I got home I had those same fears again. So you can imagine what I would be like if I was responsible for airplane engines, LOL. My symptoms have waned over the years except for one. There isn't a night that goes by that I'm not worried about my shop burning down. I wake up every night in a panic and have to check. I've learned to live with it I guess. Maybe because I work at home and so don't worry that I've left a light on or a propane heater on that will burn the Jobsite down.
