There is a belief system out there that says we can't keep the commandments. This is so untrue and from the pit of hell. The Bible nevers says we can't keep the commandments. We may not want to keep the commandments or we may be keeping the commandments with the wrong motive and it's no doubt that we may not keep them pefectly all the time but it never says we can't keep them.

Jesus kept the commandments and He's our example. Zacharias and Elizabeth kept the commandments of God.

Luke 1"5-6 There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the division of Abijah. His wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.

To say we can't keep the commandments is a ploy from the devil to let down our guard and live in disobedience. If you allow God to write His Law in your heart and mind you will love God and will keep His commandments. If you keep the commandments with this motive you will manifest a godly love and be over flowing with compassion.

God never says we can't keep the commandments, but rather, He tells us to persevere in keeping them and having the faith of Jesus.

Revelation 14:12 Here is a call for the endurance of the saints, those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.

There is no pit of hell.... yet.... Jesus is our Savior, not our example, to say that he is our example means that we can do what he did, and that would be a LIE... to believe you can keep the commandments means that you have totally ignored Paul's letter to the Galatians, which would be beneficial to you IF you would accept it.... since you can't you continue your obsession with the law... carry on....

Please note this statement from the Adult Sabbath School Quarterly Lesson 2 July 6, 2010:
It is convenient for us to classify Old Testament laws into various categories: (1) moral law, (2) ceremonial law, (3) civil law, (4) statutes and judgments, and (5) health laws.

This classification is in part artificial. In actuality, some of these categories are interrelated, and there is considerable overlap. The ancients did not see them as separate and distinct.
Lesson 2

Here is the problem. Since adventists have created artificial categories in "the law" and ancient jews saw it as a whole, why did the church consciously choose to make these artificial categories? When Paul was speaking about the law, he was talking about more than just the 10 commandments. When Jesus spoke of the law it was more than the 10 commandments. When they spoke of the first covenant, it was the totality of OT law.... So explain if you would how you can separate the 10 commandments from the rest of the law that they (the 10c's) were embedded?

I have learned, the hard way, not to discuss the Bible with someone who does not believe the Bible.

I think that we can keep God's commandments through God's grace not through our own efforts.
I think it's impossible for us to keep commandments created by other people/organisations using our own efforts though.
It's also impossible to keep commandments which God gave but got corrupted by men who restated them from the graceful helpful way they were given to us to a legalistic condemning imposition on people's lives resulting in a huge stumbling block of 'do not touch' laws.

Interesting, however that's a cop out, but that is your option... if your rationale was legit, perhaps your argument could be considered, since its not, and you are unable to answer even basic questions, your argument is moot...

The commandments were not given so that they could be "kept." That is the first misconception...

That's just a matter of your semantics vs mine. If you love me keep my commandments can be interpreted differently too.

No, not semantics at all.... one, notice you have not defined what commandments the text is referring to, and two, notice that the motivating factor for keeping the commandments is LOVE.... that is significant... one must love before any action is required... having said that, what commandments is the text referring to and how do you know?

Would you consider the letter Paul wrote to the Galatians a question of semantics?

You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified. 2 I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by observing the law, or by believing what you heard? 3 Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to attain your goal by human effort? 4 Have you suffered so much for nothing—if it really was for nothing? 5 Does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you because you observe the law, or because you believe what you heard?
6 Consider Abraham: "He believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness."[a] 7 Understand, then, that those who believe are children of Abraham. 8 The Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: "All nations will be blessed through you." 9 So those who have faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.

10 All who rely on observing the law are under a curse, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law."[c] 11 Clearly no one is justified before God by the law, because, "The righteous will live by faith."[d] 12 The law is not based on faith; on the contrary, "The man who does these things will live by them."[e] 13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree."[f] 14 He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.

From The Message paraphrase because of clarity (emphasis mine):
Galatians 3:21-22 If such is the case, is the law, then, an anti-promise, a negation of God's will for us? Not at all. Its purpose was to make obvious to everyone that we are, in ourselves, out of right relationship with God, and therefore to show us the futility of devising some religious system for getting by our own efforts what we can only get by waiting in faith for God to complete his promise. For if any kind of rule-keeping had power to create life in us, we would certainly have gotten it by this time.

Notice the last part of the verse: For if any kind of rule-keeping had power to create life in us, we would certainly have gotten it by this time.

"If you love me, keep my commandments." There might be disagreement as to what comprises "my commandments," but a keeping of some kind of commandments is certainly expected by Jesus... if we love Him.

come on, Stormy, be consistent. You just said that we can't keep nor are we expected to keep the commandments (whatever they might be), and now you say that we can keep them if done in love. Which is it. Can we keep them or not? :p

I've reached the following conclusions:
There is only One who is good.
Human righteousness is as filthy rags.
All have sinned.
If a man claims to be without sin, there is no truth in him.

Can you help me understand this statement a bit better? If a denomination taught that non-sabbatarians will one day receive the mark of the beast, would this be an examlpe of "a legalistic imposition on people's lives resulting in a huge stumbling block of 'do not touch' laws?"

I was simply interpreting the text that is.... if you LOVE me then Keep.... It is clear from the stuff that Paul wrote that the commandments were never given to "keep," but given to show that the relationship between humans and their Creator was out of alignment and that God would realign it i.e. humans need saving, I (the Creator) will make that possible... As for being consistent, I reserve the right to change my mind regarding a belief I hold anytime I choose.... I will be consistent about that...

This counsel is pertinent at this point.

Eccl 7:8
8 Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit. KJV

When we begin we are proud in spirit. This is good. Let us remember Peter's beginning, for it is the way we all begin. There is no way around it.

When the Lord brings us to the end, he will humble us and make us patient in spirit. This is better.

John 21:18-19
18 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.

19 This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.KJV

Additionally from Galatians
The Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith
Before this faith came, we were held prisoners by the law, locked up until faith should be revealed. So the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith. Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law.
