games can often be a source of relaxation and stress relief for many people. I knew a guy once who was very violent, a friend handed him a game a while back and he has since become much less violent since playing as it relieves stress for him.

however like anything else to much can be bad, so it should be used in moderation.

Do you guys think that God would approve of us spending our time mindlessly playing video games? I have been thinking about this alot lately. Video games can become preety addicting and I know that God would not approve of us caring more about a game then honoring him through service and good works. Any ideas?

Perhaps you should ask your spiritual father. ;)

"Mindless" is hardly the description. There are numerous mental health benefits to video games.
There have been studies done on this very subject. In all of them, the gamers have shown:

-Increased Patience
-Increased eyesight
-Increased reflexes
-Increased hand-eye coordination
-Increased creativity
-Increased logic and math skills

Video games are also used as therapy for children with ADD, illnesses, and injuries.

I've actually written several papers on this subject. It's probably more healthy for your mind when you play video games than when you read (except for the Bible).

If you have to blame something for your own faults, blame television, movies, or music. Did you know the average American watches TV for 5 hours per day?

Playing videogames isn't mindless, it's selfish.

The enemy uses things like videogames, tv, and even forums as a way to distract people from their calling in life.

You ignore the needs of others for the sake of your entertainment, how is this not breaking of the 2nd commandment that Jesus gave?

I answer your question with a question: does playing video games mean that you're ignoring the needs of others? It CAN, but certainly not in all cases. Imagine coming home at night after work, dinner is finished, your wife is reading in her chair, you have no kids, and decide to sit down for a few rounds on your Turbographx-16.

How in the world do you consider that ignoring others??? All you're doing is committing logical fallacy here.

Imagine having no job, no food, no clean water and mud pies to eat just to put something in your stomach.

You give a false example of your life to try and justify your selfish actions.
You don't just play a few minutes of games do you?
This is common with the over whelming mass majority of christians, they ignore people and put their interests first.

The bible says that we are to look at others as more important than ourselves.
This example is perfectly shown by Jesus Himself, and we are called to live the same way.

This is why the world is in the current state that it is in, because christians are nothing like Jesus in their actions.

That is besides the point, if Hitler said that what he was doing was wrong yet continued to do it anyways, would that make what he said any less true?

I am constantly trying to please the spirit and deny the flesh.
I have left everything behind to open up a christian bootcamp to help others get over their flesh.
Most of the time I sleep out of my car just so I won't be able to do the things the flesh wants to do.

I've spent the past 3 years looking for Christians who want to live like Christ, I have not found 1 person.

The bottom line is if you were in need, you would want help.
You ignore the needy and come up with all kinds of excuses.

Do you not know that God has set up a spiritual law of sowing and reaping?
That what you sow is what you reap.
To live selfishly, is to live foolishly. With your actions you are saying to God "God I do not believe in your ways, I only want to do what I feel like doing."

I know how hard it is to deny the flesh, and I know how the devil uses lies to try and keep us from living the truth.
But I also know that God's ways are the best ways, not just for those in need but for those who are helping.

If you want to continue living like the fool, you will be punished like him as well.

This is why the world is in the current state that it is in, because christians are nothing like Jesus in their actions.
So, watching some sports after dinner, playing a few rounds of games (no, I do NOT play for hours on end. I resent you for assuming that I do in your last post. I literally don't have time for that.), or playing some cards is the cause of the current state of the world? Get real.

Work currently takes 12 hours out of my day on 5 days a week, and 6-7 hours on a sixth day. I spend about 5-6 hours for church on Sunday (1.5 hours EACH WAY for travel, and 2-3 hours at church. Personally, I think I do a lot. Games help me to relax and unload stress. Most of my game time is playing Dr. Mario, Tetris or Puyo-puyo with my wife. Is that somehow antichristian living, in your view?

Even Jesus had a nap on on the boat while his disciples were fishing and steering the boat in a storm. If you just go, go, go, you'll burn yourself out. Most people NEED some downtime to relax.

I've spent the past 3 years looking for Christians who want to live like Christ, I have not found 1 person.
You'll be looking forever. We aren't called to live like Christ. We're called to live for Christ. Big difference.

If you want to continue living like the fool, you will be punished like him as well
How is the life I described to you "living like a fool"? Is working 66 hours a week in order to provide for your family, and then taking some time to relax when you're at home in the form of gaming (and watching a bit of Japanese TV, and Bible study, AND taking care for your sick father-in-law AND studying Koine Greek for a masters degree, "living like a fool"? Get off your high and arrogant horse. Now.

Christ is the cornerstone, and the bible says that we are to "be immitators of God".

Living the second commandment is to love fellow mankind the way Christ loved us.
Jesus took a nap and did rest, but He live an unselfish lifestyle.
You have posted that you go to church for 3 hours, and that's all you posted.
You take care of your family but Jesus said "What good is that, even the heathens do that much."

Jesus gave two examples, one that feed the poor, clothed those who didn't have clothes, visited those in jail, etc.
And the one that didn't do those things.

Many Christians talk about how they are sinners and how they need Jesus's works on the cross to justify them, and then when rebuked for their sins they come up with excuses or try to say they are doing nothing wrong.
Well doing "nothing" is a big problem, and it is sin.

Christians say with their actions that they care more about their tv, about their games, than they do about those in need.
Many christians care more about their pets than they do about humans.
