Well...this is a loaded question!

Since having to sing while stationed right behind an ear-splitting trumpet that nearly drowned out the rest of the orchestra and choir during a performance of Vivaldi's "Gloria"...it was made obvious that trumpets are indeed a tool of the devil.

Now, if a rotten tree cannot produce good fruit, and brass instruments are of the same "tree", so to speak, I would have to conclude that tubas are guilty as well. Any attempts by tuba players to coax a soft, pleasing sound out of a tuba should be regarded as a wolf trying to dress in sheep's clothing.

No, most violists play an instrument that is both base and vile! ;)

Mhatten: If we're lucky, UberLutheran will have a picture of one. (Think: "the ill wind that nobody blows good" ;)

You mean a hautboy isn't a guy who is conceited, pretentious and haughty (I made a punny :D )

Shall I ruin the fun or not by actually stating what such is? (I suggest you translate hautbois from French to English for the curious.)

As for tubas, I don't care, but clarinets are from heaven!

Then there is the accordian!

My Grandfather, also a doctor and radiologist,
had a collection of accordians in his attic...
He loved to play the accordian!

I guess that makes him a Dracula or a
Dr. von Niemann....ahahahaah!!!

( Or "The bat", close to the end, after his secret was discovered...)
from House of Dracula 1930

:p

Great question...hilarious! CaDan!

As usual in threads discussing morality, the question of what precisely is meant by the term needs to be addressed. Is the modern instrument called a "tuba" what was meant by the condemnation of "serpents" in Scripture? What exactly is the instrument referred to in Psalms 150, "Praise him upon the trumpet"? Does the condemnation extent to euphoniums? Sousaphones? Sousaphones played in Susa, by the Medes and the Persians? This raises many questions that call for answers. Does God's forgiveness extend even to an unrepentant tuba-player? What about someone who wants to play a tuba but resists the temptation? This is rife with moral issues!

Don't try to confuse the issue with some sort of liberal relativism!

It's a simple question.
