I have to say, while I agree with the opening up of WWMC, I do see the unlikelihood of that actually happening. I stand in solidarity with my brothers and sisters who have changed their faith icons in protest, and I would change mine, except I'm holding out for another faith icon to be added. Changing mine now might kill that discussion.

With the advent of the UCC denominational icon, I asked for a Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) icon - a red chalice with a white St. Andrew's Cross. Erwin said he'd consider it if I got more of my denominational brothers and sisters to start posting here, and there are a few of us, but there was no solid number given, so God knows if and when my denom icon will become available. In the meantime ... I use the nice and vague, pretty little Protestant icon, since the Disciples are of Presbyterian heritage. Gotta love that church history!

Yes there is... but that very irony has apparently infected Christian forums since its inception... only recently (yet slowly) has there been any apparent change.

I didn't know there were any posting restrictions to the icon--I'd thought that if you pressed the button saying you agreed with the Nicene creed you could post anywhere no matter what your icon is.

True. But there aqre a number of people who wear the candle icon or the UU icon, and maybe a few others, who consider themselves Christian, although either objecting to some portion of the Nicene Creed or objecting to creedal tests in general.

Or, as in my case, object to Christians being considered outsiders/not Christians in forums entitled Christian Only forums rather than what they should be named i.e. Nicene Creed Christian Only Forums.

When that changes, I'll affirm my little heart out but not before.

I feel pretty comfortable here, but I avoid bringing up the "taboo" subjects because I remember when I first registered here, I was under the impression that the liberal forum was "safe" from conservatism. I didn't read the rules, I guess, because I received some stereotypical conservative responses.

I really like the idea of a liberal forum where we can discuss our thoughts freely and not have to defend ourselves. It would be great to have uninhibited freedom to discuss abortion, homsexuality, etc. I think it's fascinating to find out how other liberal Christians think.

Check out WWMC, too. It has "liberal safehouse" rules , but does not allow discussion of "controversial topics" (i.e. those listed in rules 4.2 and 6.6).

Because I wear the Magen David as my religious symbol. I'm not allowed into the "Christians Only" forum; except to "debate" in the Messianic Judaism forum. I understand the rules, but Toney and I used to open up some really good threads in there. But alas, he is gone from the forums (by his own choosing).
