Paul was a pharisee and a teacher, when he speaks of food he speaks of kosher foods. common sense and logic should be used when studying the word. Eating clean is a message from before Noah. our father chose for Moses to write these laws for a reason?

HUH? What does food sacrificed to idols have to do with whether that food is kosher or not?

Ahhh...yes...I'm seeking to be cool. I had tats before they were the "in" thing to do. Nice try.
UM - you don't have to be IN to be cool. Many people seek to be cool by doing things that are quite radical compared to what the "IN CROWD" are doing. THEN the radical things become the trendy things and they then become the "IN" things. Look at piercings. Once the parlance of the punk fringe - they are now quite mainstream. Same thing with Tattoos.
Does the Bible say to NOT be cool? I mean, I thought Jesus was a pretty cool guy...maybe I'm wrong. Or should I add that to my list of why I'm doomed to go to hell.
As I have said before - Jesus hung out with harlots but did not dress like a harlot let alone act like one whilein the process. Christ never conformed Himself to the world and the worlds way of doing things. He always dressed and acted modestly. Christ’s "coolness" was internal. Christ’s coolness is a matter of Character not applique.

And as for the going to hell thing - that's between you and God. Doing something wrong in the eyes of God does not automatically equal going to hell. Forgiveness still applies . . . why so defensive? guilty conscience?? ;)

Pray about it, and see what the Lord convicts you of. I think this is a case by case kinda thing. Does God want you to get a tatoo? Is He convicting you not to? What are your motivations for it? Does it give an appearance of evil to others? Will it stumble other believers? Lots to think about it being that it is so permanent. At least piercings you can let heal over.

Why? Well, they are tats that have a deep personal meaning to me & my relationship w/ Christ. That is why.

Now, Why the big dislike for tats? Bad experience w/ a tatooed biker or punk? Just don't like the looks of them? Don't like what they represent....to you?

Salvation is of the heart - not of the skin.

I'm still waiting for a reason as to why tats are wrong. Not one bit of evidence - other than personal opinion or dislike for them - has been presented.

Gutter... the only evidence that will be provided to you is Lev. 19:28.... I have been trying to argue for tats for almost 2 years on this board... it is a futile thing.

The same 4 or 5 people find the tat threads and start throwing around the verse, with no substantion... and then refuse to consider your arguments. Br.Max is just one of them... Give it some time and there will be at least one other "regular" that will debate the same thing.... except he will go as far as to say that you are going to hell because you aren't repenting of the sin of getting tattoos.

You don't have to do everything listed in leviticus to know that what it says is wrong - IS wrong

I beg to differ, the Apostle Pauls if you adhere to any of the law, you must ahere to all of it. So again, either you live according to the law or you are completely free from it.

Sounds like we're really getting caught up in disputable matters here.

Mark 12
28One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, "Of all the commandments, which is the most important?"

29"The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.[e] 30Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.'[f] 31The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'[g]There is no commandment greater than these."

32"Well said, teacher," the man replied. "You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him. 33To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices." 34When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." And from then on no one dared ask him any more questions.

I got my tattoo before I was a Christian. I've been convicted of many things but my tattoo was not one of them. In fact, God has used it to open a door to witnessing for me. He truly can use anything for His good. Now, I have absolutely no desire to get another one but I surely wouldn't pronounce judgement on somebody who got one.

I sometimes wonder if arguments such as these help or hurt the cause of growing the Kingdom of God. I suspect they hurt it and that is a shame.

You base your relationship with Christ on tattoos? Or do you feel that these tattoos influence God in some way?
Now, Why the big dislike for tats? Bad experience w/ a tatooed biker or punk? Just don't like the looks of them? Don't like what they represent....to you?
I simply do not argue with God's word. What the Word calls wrong is wrong. Sure the penalties and how these "wrongs" are dealt with may and has changed - I don't remember ever seeing Christ saying that everything that was - it no more. IN FACT I remember Him saying that not one iota of the law would be done away with until heaven and earth pass away. Do works of the law save? nope.
Salvation is of the heart - not of the skin.
And I have never stated otherwise. I would not be so foolish as to assume that getting a tattoo would bar anyone from salvation - any more than murder or stealing would bar one from salvation. BUT wrong is wrong and there is a price to pay for doing wrong. FURTHER - be not conformed but transformed :).
I'm still waiting for a reason as to why tats are wrong. Not one bit of evidence - other than personal opinion or dislike for them - has been presented.
Since when is a passage of scripture opinion??

rotfl. so um . . . since we cannot keep "all the law" are we then free to ignore it? NO!.

No, no, no...c'mon people let's really explore what the Bible has to say

16Now a man came up to Jesus and asked, "Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?"

17"Why do you ask me about what is good?" Jesus replied. "There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, obey the commandments."

18"Which ones?" the man inquired.

Jesus replied, " 'Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, 19honor your father and mother,'[d] and 'love your neighbor as yourself.'[e]"

20"All these I have kept," the young man said. "What do I still lack?" 21Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

Everything we need to do (and should be doing) is summed up in these commands. That said, let me say, an awful lot of the leviticus commands make sense from a medical standpoint and funny how as we learn more about medicine we can look back and say, wow, they were already doing that or they already knew it.

Guarantee you'll meet plenty of people in heaven who had tattoos. You just won't see them because I'm relatively sure our glorified bodies won't have our earthly tattoos.

One day I will be reunited with my body to be introduced to the Great Redeemer and His(our) Father.
I really wouldn't want that body blemished. I feel bad enough for the hole in my ear from when I had it pierced 20-some-odd years ago. :)
(that's my feeling)
I pray the Lord will speak to you , and let you know what's right for you.
