i have several tattoos. i got them before i became a christian. when i was about 21 years old. if i could do it all over again most of them wouldn't be on my body. but i really like a few of them. unfortunately people sometimes judge you when they see tattoos. most of the ones i have are in plain sight. but once a person starts talking to me and gets to know me the tattoos don't seem to matter. i look at them as battle scars of my old life. sometimes i need a reminder of where i have been so i can truly be greatful for where i am now!
i think tattoos are ok as long as the person who is getting it realizes that when they are 80 years old that tattoo is still going to be there!

i would say that the Lord knows your Heart and if your tatoos gives him the glory some how than it may be worth having.

Leviticus chapter 19, verse 28, which says: “You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you: I am the LORD.” I would say that includes Tattoos. That is however, part of the old covenent, which Jesus got rid of when he came, and we are not held to those standards. Leviticus 19:19 forbids the mixing of fibers in their clothing, which we all do, but its no longer a sin. I find it funny that people use Leviticus to condem homosexuality, but have nothing against wearing cotton/polyester clothing, since all sin is sin, but that is for a different discussion. I dont believe its (tattoos) a sin, but I am agianst it. There is no reason. We are called to be set apart from the world and to live Godly lives. I don’t think that Jesus would be frequenting tattoo parlors if He were around today.

I have one as well. I agree with the poster above, as I don't believe the verse mentioned in Leviticusrelates to us, being as we live by the new law, courtesy of Jesus. :)
But Jesus said he did not come to abolish the Law but to fullfill the Law. If God said it was wrong then it is wrong now He does not change his mind

Well, according to Paul, He did in fact abolish the law.

And either He changes His mind, or we misread it horribly when applying to ourselves rules given to Jews, another people in another time. God, for example, doesn't mind me eating pork.

I apply the same principles to tattoos that I do with many other things in my daily life--

Is eating fast food wrong? Is listening to so called "secular" music wrong? Is reading romance novels wrong (I don't read them actually, they make me sick)? Is watching TV wrong? Is singing anything other than hymns at church wrong? Is worshiping any other way than by raising your hands wrong?

I think the answer to all of these questions is ultimately "No." They are not fundamentally wrong. However, when applied in certain ways, they can be wrong. For example, eating fast food on a daily basis can be damaging to your body. Listening to music that degrades what God has called good, damages your spirit, self-worth, and so much more. Reading romance novels can awaken love before it needs to be woken.... you get my point.

Apples are not harmful to your body... however, too much of a good thing is actually a bad thing.

When it comes to tattoos, I have chosen to tread a path that I believe has led me to where I am today. I have a tattoo. I am not ashamed. I do not repent of it, because I do not believe it to be a sin. I do not regret it, and don't believe that there is a reason for me to regret it. With all things that are permanent or affect your life in major ways, there should be much thought involved. For me, I thought and prayed about my tattoo for 2 years before I actually got it done. At the end of the two years, I felt peace about it, I got the tattoo that I designed on my right ankle. I have never questioned my decision, never felt any remorse for my decision.

This topic has been around for ages. As a matter of fact, I just ordered a DVD on tattoos from the History Channel. I am excited about watching it. I will report back to you when I finish watching it.

Ultimately, every decision should be prayed about, thought through, prior to being made.

For some, listening to "secular" music is a sin... for others, reading a romance novel is a sin. We are all designed and created differently. What works for you, may not work for me. We are each unique and our spirits are also unique.

I think I have seen that one. Warning-It is going to be STRANGE. There was a man on there that was gay, wanted to be a cougar so he got so many tattoos on his body that he resembled one. He also had these metal whisker impants in his cheeks.... oh yeah, sex change and breast implants, too, but I don't know what that has to do with anything. This man literally turned himself into a walking animal by the use of tattoos. I forgot... he also did something to his ears that made them go into a point like a cat.

Watching that show showed me how sick people truly are.

I've seen the shows on the History Channel. There are several of them about tats. They are all good. They cover different cultures and how they use tattoo's. Very interesting.

I've also seen the "tiger guy" before. that is creepy. He also eats raw meat.

Leviticus chapter 19, verse 28,

Do you ahere to everthing it says to do and don't do in Leviticus??

Whoever said 'stumbling blocks' is close! In a nutshell the NT says not to do anything that would cause a weaker bro. to stumble. So, if you get a tattoo, get one you can hide around those that find it offensive or believe it is wrong.

It is obvious, Paul didn't have a problem eating meat sacrificed to idols, but he said if yoru bro. does, then don't eat it in front of them.

Paul was a pharisee and a teacher, when he speaks of food he speaks of kosher foods. common sense and logic should be used when studying the word. Eating clean is a message from before Noah. our father chose for Moses to write these laws for a reason?

our father even told Noah to take 7 of each of the clean animals and 2 of the unclean.

You don't have to do everything listed in leviticus to know that what it says is wrong - IS wrong. :)

There is a difference between doing what you need to do in order to live and doing what you want to do in order to be "cool."

Sooo...I'm suppose to be eating Kosher?

Great - I'm surely going to hell. I have tattoo's, I drink, I drink grape juice with communion, I don't hate gays, I didn't vote for Bush, and I don't eat Kosher....wow....I'm doomed.

Ahhh...yes...I'm seeking to be cool. I had tats before they were the "in" thing to do. Nice try.

Does the Bible say to NOT be cool? I mean, I thought Jesus was a pretty cool guy...maybe I'm wrong. Or should I add that to my list of why I'm doomed to go to hell.
