Are "certain" video games unholy?

so appease him until the judgment.

As long as he behaves with his younger cousins and does his choirs I let him play his games. Hasn’t given me any cause to punish him, but if he did I would just take his video games away from him for a day or something.
Letting a kid have fun when they deserve it is not appeasing.

What should I be doing, telling him his parents are going to hell and making him read the bible…. Sounds like a fun way to spend summer.

By calling the simulated behavior harmless, you are in effect endorsing it.

I am endorsing video games… sure.

Yep, no matter how realistic, the fact it is fiction makes it worlds different from witnessesing the event in real life.
you don't believe it at all possible that it desensitizes people to the real?
I’m not putting slaves in arenas against their will to fight in blood sports for my enjoyment.
Then what were you talking about snuff films being entertainment for then?
Like what, “everything else” is a lot of things.
obviously violence, as well as pornography, witchcraft, satanism, take your pick.

games are games, don't give them more importance than they deserve...good or bad.
I don't know If I would call strangulation or neck breaking in a game insignificant, particularly for a Christian.
Is this something we need to be involved in?

Nope.

They can be, I’ve seen videos on the internet of real life executions and such. But as to your original question what is difference between me and the Romans. I’m not making, producing or profiting off any snuff films. I may watch one on the internet ever now and again, you know a clip from a war or something of that nature (a lot of WW2 documentaries) but I’m not committing any crimes.

Well the last two aren’t my choice activities, but I don’t see any children seriously being into witchcraft of Satanism.

But I did not say that now did I?
I thought you were insinuating that confusing was satan's realm. In fact, as the author of the Bible, God has done a great deal to confuse people. As much as we wish things were clearly, sometimes they are not.

I was asking what sins are we to consider harmless if fictionalized.
No sin is acceptable. These acts in virtual worlds are not sin, that is what I am saying, yet they can impact our character over time, so we need to assess why we are playing these games. Depending on the reason why we are indulging in that fiction, we can then determine if it's ok.

The thing Is that would you still play the game if the objectionable parts were removed?
It depends on what the content is that is removed and if it impacts other areas. For example replacing soldiers with zombies in BF2, would destroy the entire game for me, so no. Yet not having blood appear when shot, is fine. In fact one of the big discussion I had with a friend at work was that I would possibly play Diablo 2 if the extreme gore was removed.

Fellowship with the world is not necessarily a Good thing.
I think fellowship is generally a good thing, and if we can promote our message through it, then that's even better. Heck, if Jesus hung out with prostitutes and sinners, I think we can certainly say that good will come of it if we uphold our integrity.

I am certain there was plenty of fellowship watching Christians being fed to the lions in the coliseum,.
Were Christians enjoying that too? I think not.

This is also not an answer to my question of what other sins are acceptable.
No sins are acceptable, that's for sure. Yet these actions in games are not sins. Did you read my post earlier about how God created rules to protect us and how all sin has a consequence and so on?

Cheers,
Digit

Yes it can, and that's something we see all the time in our lives, where people who do things that we ourselves are not used to, regularly, they find it much easier than us. It has less of an impact on them than us. It's not just about violence and gore and so on, but we have the ability to adapt to anything we experience often enough. Just as a window clearner who cleans windows by dangling from a rope down the side of a high-rise building has no issues about it, something like that would scare the heck outta me. Yet after doing it for a few years I would think nothing of it.

The same applies to anything we do.

You can raise your children how ever you want, don’t want your kids playing a harmless computer game…. That’s your choice.

I would think you would be above petty personal attacks such as this, especially considering the things you have revealed about yourself and life on this forum. But again, your life, can’t stop you from being a hypocrite.

Are Americans really that sheltered? Generations after generations have grown up in real violence, living though those things and lived on to be productive law abiding citizens. Seeing these things doesn’t make someone a criminal, just as playing a video game is not going to effect someone’s behavior. It is a video game, I fail to see how that point is so lost.

Snuff films.

Telling some one they condone sin is not a personal attack....
Petty personal attacks is this Mezza "But again, your life, can’t stop you from being a hypocrite."

Not a personal attack, I’m sure we have already discussed you living in a perpetual state of adultery so no point in re-hatching the discussion. I just find it rich that someone in your position would go out of their way to point out what they think are others sins and use that as a "moral high" ground.

I am not living in adultery Mezza, just because I hadn't went before your religion of man made doctrine to have it annulled. You cling to one teaching of your religion and reject others because of your self seeking desires.
I am not standing on no moral high ground other than the Word of God.

Who are you trying to convince?

Thus a married woman is bound by law to her husband as long as he lives. . . . Accordingly, she will be called an adulteress if she lives with another man while her husband is alive" (Rom. 7:2–3)

But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, causes her to become an adulteress, and anyone who marries the divorced woman commits adultery. (Matthew 5:32)

I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery." (Matthew 19:9)

I would suggest that it should be handled like the meat in 1 Cor. You are certainly free to draw that line for yourself, but not for others. For my part, I won't create an issue for you by playing them in front of you.

Not that it has anything to do with the OP, but how do you know he is a perpetual state of adultery? Do you think if a divorced person remarries, and later repents for any sin they may have committed, that God does not forgive him?

you do not know the why nor how divorce came about in my marriage. nor are you my judge and jury.
I have had just about enough of your disrespect. You accuse me of adultery for reasons it was not nullified by the religion you chose to follow, excuse me part of the religion you choose to follow, the pope is only vice god when you say he is.

I don't wish to take this thread down a completely unrelated and very personal road, but I think it's clear some of us don't worship the same person.

In this I would suggest we stick to the topic at hand, and leave out the personal attacks. Regardless of whether we are right or wrong it most certainly isn't Christlike, and that's something we should adhere to and uphold at every possible opportunity.

Cheers,

Your right and I apologize for the detour off the topic of this thread.
(trying to count how many times I have said "your right" ;))

those are the words of Jesus Christ, our lord and savior. Maybe you have just never read them before, who knows what caused you to enter into the lifestyle that you do. But i will pray for you and the man you live with, as well as your husband.

If she was cheated on she could have divorced him, according to the scripture.

SymphonicaX actually forwarded me to another forum where he has put up the same post, trying to get a more varied view on things. I put up my thoughts there too and had someone reply pretty much saying exactly what I have, that he had to give up a few games, as they were simply an outlet for his anger. He was playing them to relieve frustration rather than offer that up to the Lord in prayer. In this I commended him, as it shows a good mind which can identify the issue, the reason why he's playing it, and make the hard call.

Cheers,

Hey David,

Please lets move on from this. :) It has no place here and it just pollutes the thread. There is another thread that deals with this, that was started by ShermanNobles and shone some quite startling light on the subject, in that I feel Chie has done no wrong and walks much closer to the Lord than many of us here. ^_^

Cheers!
