  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Are ‘Antifa’ and the Alt-Right Equally Violent?

Or is this the famous

"At least we aren't as bad as them" defense?
Ahhh! The ever popular President Trump supporter refrain! When they have to defend the indefensible, they usually trot this one out.

Charlottesville City Councilor Reflects on Losing Re-Election Bid

"A Charlottesville city councilor lost his re-election bid in the 2017 primary elections.

He believes Tuesday's primary was a referendum on the city's confederate monument debate.

The free speech wall the following Wednesday morning boosted that belief. It had a message that said “Fenwick gone, RE Lee still here.”

Fenwick lost in the democratic primary to Amy Laufer and Heather Hill. He said is surprised by the turnout and the results."

I'd be interested in a few links to who the antifa were tried and convicted of killing.

Or people could stop pretending they're equally guilty?
tulc(suspects the moon thing is more likely to happen then his suggestion) :sigh:
They are equally bad groups. If something is "less bad" it does not mean its not bad. For example the bible says all sins are equal. So if you steal a piece of gum it doesn't mean your sin is less than that of someone who killed someone. Like wise even if one side is "less guilty" it doesn't mean they are really less guilty. Both sides promote hate, thus both equally bad.

Charlottesville's community overwhelmingly voted to keep the statue and to keep the park's name. Here's how the three city councilors who voted to sell the statue responded:

In response to the survey data, Charlottesville’s tunnel vision trio had this to say:

Fenwick: "I understand that Lee Park is what the majority of people want now, but I don't think that would be appropriate."

Szakos: “We decided to change the names. We’re not going to go with the majority. This was a way to submit ideas.”

Bellamy: “It’s not rocket science to understand what’s happening,” he said. “You have people clicking things multiple times.”
This situation of a majority voting for one thing and then the minority of voters getting what they picked instead sounds strangely familiar.

so to you President Trump is equally as bad the other leaders of his alt-right supporters?

In this case, it was an overwhelming majority.

General Lee never owned any slaves. When he got slaves as part of inheritance, he freed them immediately. The Union general Grant owned African slaves till the end of the civil war. The Civil War was about import taxes more than anything. When Lincoln freed slaves, he did it only for the states that faught against the north. As for the southern states that joined the Union, they were allowed to keep the slaves...

Months and months of antifa attacking peaceful demonstrations and as long as victims were on the right it was ok. Every protest things escalated and finally someone is dead and now you care about the violence because the dead person is a leftist.

It was apparently ok when it was right wingers getting hurt.

So, if the statue is staying and the park keeps its name, why were the Nazis and the KKK and the white supremacists there..?? What were they protesting about..?

Because the community's fight to keep America's history wasn't yet finished.

These criminals from hell that you mention actually played into the hands of those who wanted the part of American history destroyed.

The community fought the decision to destroy America's history by peaceful, legal ways.

But the side that started it all is the guiltiest.

Just don't touch those monuments. Leave history to history. Problem solved.
FYI the side that started it was the US government. They decided to remove the monument. Neo-Nazis and Neo-Confederates responded by showing up with guns.

Not the US federal government, but the city council of Charlottesville VA, to be exact.

Those criminals from hell that you refer to as new-whatever, only played into the hands of the city council.

Haven't read the thread. I'm just here to say that, in Germany, the only monuments are to the victims of murder. Wherever you go, you see monuments to Jews who were murdered by Hitler and his henchmen/women. You do NOT see monuments to those who carried out the holocaust. As to the argument that monuments to evil people keeps history alive: not the case in Germany, France, or anywhere else I have ever visited. No monuments exist to Hitler, Pol Pot, Hussein ... and yet history has not forgotten them or their crimes.

I keep coming across people saying that removing monuments is removing history. Strange how monuments across the world have been toppled by successive regimes, and yet we still know how those people were. People need to get over their graven images and idols. It's far from biblical.

...no, the Neo-Nazis and Neo-Confederates weren't unwitting accomplice's in the city's secret conspiracy.

And if you don't know what Neo-Nazis and Neo-Confederates are, then you don't have an understanding of the basic facts needed to discuss this topic.

Neo-Nazism consists of post-World War II social or political movements seeking to revive the ideology of Nazism.

Neo-Nazism borrows elements from Nazi doctrine, including ultranationalism, racism, ableism, xenophobia, homophobia, antiziganism, antisemitism, and initiating the Fourth Reich. Holocaust denial is a common feature, as is the incorporation of Nazi symbols and admiration of Adolf Hitler.

Neo-Confederate (or "Southern Nationalist") is a term used to describe the views of various groups and individuals who portray the Confederate States of America and its actions in the American Civil War in a positive light.

The Ku Klux Klan /ˈkuː ˈklʌks ˈklæn, ˈkjuː/,[7] commonly called the KKK or simply the Klan, is the name of three distinct movements in the United States that have advocated extremist reactionary positions such as white supremacy, white nationalism, anti-immigrationand—especially in later iterations—Nordicism,[8][9] anti-Catholicism[10][11] and antisemitism.[11] Historically, the KKK used terrorism—both physical assault and murder—against groups or individuals whom they opposed.[12] All three movements have called for the "purification" of American society and all are considered right-wing extremist organizations.

I'm not talking about secret conspiracy, I'm talking about hate crime and stupidity.

Those awful criminals from hell helped the city council and all Confederation haters without realizing it. Any cause such clowns support, will lose.

both may have some guilt, I suspect they aren't equally guilty though.

Ahh! That would be the side that waves the swastika flags then.

If only there was something that people could bring into their houses where they could learn/talk/see about history...maybe we could call them "books" or something? That would probably make someone a pretty penny if they invented something like that. :study:
tulc(wonders why no one ever thought of that before now?) :idea1:
Is only way to defend Trump statements. Trump defend Nazis and KKK so need much defense.

Remind me of Trump brags about sexually assault women. That need much defend also so learn about "Locker Room Talk". And learn that brag of sexual assault is common talk in locker room in USA.

But since the topic of the thread is Antifa and not Trump:

Antifa is quickly becoming the most organized, funded and violent group in America.

It is run as a shadow group that is made to look like it is a populous ground swell. But wait, follow the money trail and you will find the same people as the other hate groups.

Don't ask for a link, I don't have one. Yes it is my opinion. Just like Trump winning the nomination and then the presidency was.

Even Charles Manson said that they would be done away with in no contest if/when a race war should happen - through helter-skelter and disillusion.
