Since this came up on other threads, it had me thinking that I often get the stories confused and I admit to not knowing enough about all the approved apparitions of our Blessed Mother. I found some neat u-tube videos on the most famous ones.

The videos are helpful because they explain a bit about them and also you get to see what the places actually look like today.

This first one is on Fatima, it's a little dramatization...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8NDvCChCFY&feature=related

This second one shows Lourdes, what it looks like and what happens there..it's longer but I thought worth it.

This one is a movie trailer on Fatima, anyone heard of it?

This one is cool, it's a nice little tour

I'm was always getting the three little children confused (In Portugal, Fatima) with the one young girl in (Lourdes France) seeing what they look like helps.

I thought I'd start this thread and have people add some decent sites that explain all the approved apparitions together. Or just share anything you know about them. :) I love these stories.

Just don't confuse Garabandal with Fatima, its' easy to do.

These apparitions was once believed by many good Catholics, including me. I learned about it from EWTN and Mother Angelica... she really was promoting these apparitions by having countless guests on her show talking about it, so i know a lot about Garabandal... even St Padre Pio was telling folks to go there.

But the Church has since discouraged them. They aren't condemned but discouraged, the bishop said nothing supernatural going on, so Mother Angelica and EWTN does not promote them anymore.

So point is, just don't get it confused with Fatima becuase its' similar to Fatima.

ohh, interesting. I've never heard of Garabandal. It is also children? A friend did send me a video once, it was an old film of these children inside a Church and as they looked at Mary, they did all things in unison, it looked in more recent times, duh it was film but I've been trying for the longest time to figure out which one she sent me. As I said it was set inside a Church, any clues as to what I'm talking about? It was not Fatima.

 I'm still learning too about the Mary apparitions. I need to learn more about Fatima and Lourdes and a few other approved messages (private revelations). I love our Catholic faith because there is sooo much to grasp and study and embrace and figure out...

Thank you for starting this thread. When I have more time, I'll love to watch the videos and I'm looking forward to what others want to share here too. We are soooo blessed.

God's peace,

Debbie

Did the trailer clip say 2009 at the very end? So is this movie out yet?

I have noticed that many of the approved apparitions, Mary comes to children.Ii suppose it is because of their purity. But who knows. She comes to adults too, but most times children.

Her common message has always been praying the rosary daily, and fasting, praying for peace, confession, and the world to turn back to her Son.

I think the problem many times, is that people are chasing any miracle they hear of. Looking for signs, wonders and miracles to believe. It brings many to Christ yes, but also can lead many astray and to fall if not cautious.

There are many apparitions that have started out true, but somewhere along the lines because of human nature became disordered.

I love the fact that God allows our Blessed Mother to come to us in apparitions. It gives us Hope.

I would also love in my lifetime to go to Lourdes and Fatima. My Aunt went to Lourds about 17 years ago and brought back my daughter some special things (she was not born yet) because of the special child she was going to be and going to have multiple medical conditions. I am very sad that I no longer have these items, they appear to be lost. But we did move three times in twelve months, out of state and back in state. So they must of gotten lost in one of the moves. :(

How about Our lady of Guadelope ? where they accepted ?

Our Lady of Guadalupe is approved. I know that some "modern day" ones that are also approved are Rue de Bac, La Salette, Lourdes, Pontmain, Knock, Fatima, Beauraing and Banneux, Akita, and Betania. There are others and I know that Davidnic mentioned one that was recently approved (it took a very long time before approval).

Anyone know if Our Lady of Walsingham is approved? I know Walsingham was practically a shrine, but that was before the Protestant Revolution.

CatholicCulture.Org, a website I go to that reviews Catholic websites, said this about Fish Eaters:

Fish Eaters is a personal apologetical site which targets non-Catholic Christians, converts and Catholics. Its stated purpose is to bring people to Christ and His Church. Though there are many good resources to be found here, they are seriously marred by the webmaster's ultra-traditionalist views. Throughout the site, the language consistently implicitly and explicitly rejects the New Mass as well as the authority of Second Vatican Council.
The section on Being Catholic has a wealth of information and is tastefully illustrated.

STRENGTHS
· Many good links, including reference tools, e-zines and portals, Catholic radio, and politics & culture (Resources)
· Series of questions for non-Catholics to pray about, ask themselves, and research (Resources)
· On-site apologetics resources (Resources)
· Conversion Stories in Real Audio (Resources)
· Being Catholic: Traditions, Customs, Prayers, etc. section (Resources)

WEAKNESSES
· The site as a whole implicitly and explicitly rejects the Novus Ordo Mass. (Fidelity)
· All of the material and resources offered are pre-Vatican II. (Fidelity)
· A "Dictionary of Dissent" (Fidelity)
· Unorthodox Catholic links (Fidelity)

Here is a site that you can get information on all apparitions. They list the history, Approved apparitions, unapproved ones and their status, messages, discernment, Church statements, and recent claims. I found it very helpful.

OL of Guadelope is one of the best approved. The image of OL on the cloak of Juan Diego says it all.

Another interesting thing I just found out about the cape, the stars on it is the night sky of Jesus' birth... the star of Bethlehem is there.

Mary is pregnant and about to give birth. She came to Juan Diego as the Women in Revelation 12 and she said to Juan Diego, "Am I not your mother? Are you not with in the crossing of my arms...?" beautiful message for us all.

Symbolism

The 470-year-old image of Our Lady of Guadalupe is more than simply a picture. It contains
symbols -- in a sense, hieroglyphics, or a story in pictures -- that reveal part of the message the Blessed Mother brought through Juan Diego to the Indians of Mexico and to all the people of the Americas. But the symbols had a special meaning to the Indians, who because of their culture could decipher the code in the Image.
guadalupe_1_eyes.jpg

1. Eyes
The eyes of the image are looking down, a postion of humility, revealing that, as great as she is, she is not a god. Indian gods never looked down; they looked straight ahead.
guadalupe_2_face.jpg

2. Face
The woman's face shows great compassion. The Indians felt that the face was the window of the inner person, a means by which one could read who a person was -- the way a person would act. A good woman to the Indians was one whose femininity showed in her face. The head of the woman in the image shows her with dark skin and dark hair like that of the Indians.
guadalupe_3_hands.jpg

3. Hands
Her hands are not poised in the traditional Western style of prayer, but in an Indian manner of offering, indicating that something is being offered, that something is to come from her.
guadalupe_4_band.jpg

4. Maternity Band
The maternity band around the woman's waist was the sign of a pregnant woman, a mother who is about to give birth, it was a sign to the Indians that someone is yet to come.
guadalupe_5_stars.jpg

5. Stars
The stars on the mantle are a sign that a new civilization, or era, is beginning. The Indian tradition recognized the end and the beginning of different eras throughout the ages, and the destruction of a particular civilization or era was always accompanied by a comet, or a body of stars.
guadalupe_6_rays.jpg

6. Sun Rays
The rays of sun in the image recalled for the Indians that the sun played a key role in their civilization. But the woman in the image is greater than even the sun. She hides the sun, and only the rays come forth. She hides the sun but does not extinguish it.
guadalupe_7_mantle.jpg

7. Mantle
The predominant color in the image's mantle is turquoise, the blue-green color reserved for the great god Omecihuatl. Although the Indians had many "intermediary gods." Omecihuatl was considered the supreme god. It was a mother-father god who sometimes was represented as a man and sometimes as a woman. It was a source of unity for everything that exists.
guadalupe_8_moon.jpg

8. Moon
The woman is standing on the moon, indicating that she is greater than the god of night, the moon god.
guadalupe_9_angels.jpg

9. Angel
The angel at the bottom of the image was seen by the Indians as an "intermediary god" carrying in a new era, the beginning of a new civilization. One era was at an end -- had died -- and a new one was beginning, was being born.

Miracles and Signs
face.jpg

The tilma was made from cactus fibres and as such should have turned into dust after approximately twenty years. Instead it has survived and been on diplay to the faithful for nearly 500 years despite being exposed to the smoke of candles throughout the centuries. Infrared spectroscopy has confirmed the integrity of the image.

The image on the tilma is composed of pigments that have not been identified by chemical analysis as being the product of animal, vegetable, or mineral dye. No undersketch has been identified below the painting.

Examination of the eyes of the image by photographers and ophtamalogists has suggested that the reflections of Juan Diego, the bishop, and the interpeter can be distinguished.

Additionally, the apparitions and the resulting tilma contributed in no small way to the Christianization of Mexico with several million Aztecs converting to Christianity in the ensuing years.Read about the research of Peruvian scientist José Aste Tonsmann.

Read an interview with Tonsmann.

Wow, thanks everyone for sharing what you know and adding in ones that are approved. It's hardly 5am out this way and I couldn't sleep so I thought I'd check in. What a nice thing to see :groupray: I've been thinking a lot about our blessed mother recently.

It does appear that movie is coming out in 2009 but I don't know when. I haven't had a chance to look it up.

And that has what to do with Marian Apparitions? The Apparitions were what was linked. And I know that only a few were listed.

BTW liked the "Miraclehunter" link. More were listed. Thanks.

Anyone know about Our Lady of Walsingham? I know it isn't a modern one.
