My younger brother said AOL makes your computer really really slow. Is this true do you guys think?

I like AOL because it is very organized and you get lots of stuff with it.

What are some advantages and distadvanges to AOL?

AOL is a HUGE memory hog....it and Compuserve (both the exact same company and software) are full of adware and spyware......If you can get away from AOL I would do so...Also, all this stuff you think that you get with it you can get it for FREE on the internet if you sign up with an internet service provider that cost 9.95-14.95 a month compared to the 21.95 a month you pay for AOL.....AOL is a waste of money, Slow downloads, Slow Connections, Constant Disconnects, and making your computer slow are the starters....

There are so many issues with AOL… I’ll simply put it this way, I bought a laptop with one year of AOL included into the package and I never installed it. They started sending me reminders to install the software and log into my account and I blocked there emails.

I used AOL For almost 4 months and DO NOT keep it...that is the worst thing ever to use. I just use BellSouth DSL. Plenty fast

it is good if ur a NEWB to the internet. aol says that they're software is like going to a mall, everything in on place. then they say that the other providers is like trying to go to many places, it takes longer. they are losers, dont go wtih them

Just a note to those who want to get rid of AOL.....When you try to cancel they just keep trying to give u more free time, you have to be very firm with them when you tell them to cancel, otherwise they will string you along just to keep you as a customer even if u aren't paying just so they can count u as part of the millions that use aol so they can say it is #1 when it's really not.... Compuserve is the same way and that is because they are the same company, but they don't want you to know that because people that get mad at aol go over to compuserve thinking they are getting away from them, lol, suckers.....

Do you use Broadband or Dial up?

Neither, I have a Modem. I use Comcast.

PupppyForChrist.....I use broadband and I have a modem.....Dial Up and Broadband are the type of connections. IF you want something better go wtih Earthlink. They are who I recommend.

AOL is the work of the devil!!!

Seriously, I had aol since ver 3.0 and after 8.0 came out I finally got wise and gave up. I use peoplepc now ($11 for dial-up vs. $24) along w/ incredimail for e-mail & AOL IM (it's free!)

When I cancelled AOL they gave me a free month to "think about it" then gave me the 20 minute speech before they finally said bye and we parted ways forever - I'm currently trying to get my parents away from AOL too.

I use SBC DSL. It comes with it's own Yahoo browser (I just use IE). The Yahoo browser is a lot like AOL. Walmart just came out with an ISP. My Father-In-Law uses it, and it looks just like AOL (but it's just $10 a month).
