So what was the point of putting on the mask in the first place if you're just going to take it off again while still being in the vicinity of people? It completely defeats the purpose.

I'm still a strong advocate of vaccination, and do believe the evidence is clear cut that it reduces severity when you do catch it...but that said, we're all going to get it.
I was previously infected and triple vaxxed and still caught Omicron last month (despite working from home for the last 2 years, and not going to any large gatherings in the previous weeks, which means that someone probably coughed in a grocery store, and I was within "striking range").
Maybe this will change her perspective on the situation, and bring her to the realization that "cases" isn't the metric we should be tracking at this point in the game.

Not so much for preventing. It is only about 30% effective from what I have seen. But it still appears to prevent deaths from the virus rather well.
