Amen, that argument is a fallacy. Hootie is overrated. I can name a bunch of artists and musicians who sing better and have more pleasing-to-the-ear music than Hootie. Hootie is monotonous and vapid. The 'if they sell millions of records it means they don't suck' argument is rather flawed - there are more issues and pressures involved in bands that sell like that. Much of it is due to corporate influence and demography rather than being purely weighted on talent. If the market was decided solely on talent and competitiveness and visibility were due strictly from talent, there would have been no bubblegum pop explosion in the late 90s, Post-Grunge wouldn't have survived past 2000 (and if it did, it wouldn't look anything like it does now), and the radio wouldn't have been flooded with pop-punk or bands being pawned off under genre names they clearly are not a part of (the 'Emo' and 'Post-Hardcore' bands MTV and the like hawk these days). The list goes on.

Thought about e-mailing but I thought I'd be in the minority for some reason...Then turn the dial and listen to another station, or call the station up and request something different. When will the American Public realize that the power is in their hands?
LOL VERY mediocre.They're mediocre. I did enjoy their music, my little 9 year old self. But I do still enjoy some of their songs. They didn't really do anything special or new. But they were catchy.
But you're listening to an adult contemporay station, you put that on yourself.
And no, just because a band sells millions of records doesn't automatically make them good or super talented. Britney Spears comes to mind. There a lot of underground artists or jsut artists MTV and the radio won't play because they aren't marketable enough, but have been a lot more innovative and original than a lot of the pop stars have been.
