The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.
If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.
If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have been on it for about a year now and it is working great for me. I am able to think more clearly and logical. My family and counselor even notice the difference. I highly recommend it. But I also know what is good for one is not good for the other because iour chemical makeup is different. Try it is all I can say and see how it affects you. I tried Abilify recently, but I didn't like it at all. It made my dry mouth even worse (I take Zoloft as well, which causes a bit of dry mouth, but nothing really horrible), it made me way too relaxed for my liking, and it made me dizzy and nauseous. But that's just me and my body's reaction to it. I doubt many people react as strongly to it as I did. Hope this helps.

Hi, I take it and when it kicked in it immediately lessened my anxiety. It's not a weight gainer either. I like it pretty well. God bless, tapero

I agree I really like it I have been stable for a year wondering if I will ever have manic episodes again kinda liked them got a lot done but we all no where a maic episode leads not to a very good place. I would usually have a manic break and I don't want to end up in Psych hospital again. Even though I met many neat people and got a lot of help. Thanks for responding. I was on Seroquel which was so sedating know I have been on the abilify for about 3 months so far so good no bad side effects for me. I feel normal for the first time in a long time. blessings to all!

I was on Abilify about 4 or 5 months ago and it caused me to have MAJOR weight loss! I was already underweight to begin with, and needless to say, I had to come off of that real quick.
Of course, meds react differently depending on the person, so it may work well for you.

Great post. I had a bottle of Abilify from a year ago I tried it to get out of a hypomanic episode but it caused insomnia so stopped it after 3 days and switched to Seroquel which has been nice and sedating, but I felt sluggish.
But this last manic episode I had was pretty bad with extreme anxiety and depression and I took the Abilify I still had since I fired my pdoc weeks ago, and Wow! The mania and anxiety went away very fast. It worked great for me. Some Ativan helped too.
I also like the fact that it's hard for me to obsess about things on the Abilify. Plus if it helps me lose weight, all the better.
Does anyone know if there are the same concerns about high blood sugar and high cholesterol happening with Abilify as there are with
Seroquel and Zyprexa?

I have been taking Abilify for more than 2 years and found that it has good results - better than any anti psychotic I have been on before.
I did increase in weight and I also suffered insomnia from it. (I going off Abilify soon as it did not cover all my symptoms.)
I wish you the very best with this drug.

Yes, it has given me good results so far with this latest mixed episode. I wish I had started it as soon as the symptoms started cause I would have avoided a lot of suffering and doing and saying a lot of stupid things that I wish I could take back...
But those things I would un-do I just give to the Lord and ask that He saturate them with lots of His grace and mercy... and work all things for good for those who love Him and called to His purpose...
I'm sorry Abilify didn't cover all your symptoms, Jerry. Will you try a different med for them?

I have been on Abilify for six months now. It works for me very well. Now my Dr. wants to get me off Lithium slowly so that I get to take only Abilify. For it to work for me I had to up it from 4 mg to 10 mg. Now, it seems my manic years are behind - God willing. May God help you find your med that works best for you!
