Gee people, the 'definintions' of nerds seem so broad, yet at the same time conjures up the image of 'quazi-less-than-ideal' man or woman.

So tell me, anyone, what's an "un-nerd" then?

I do or am most of the things/qualities mentioned thus far, but have never considered myself as a nerd, at least not by my definition of a nerd.

Hey, I wrote a treatise on this once:

Nerd - bookish and intelligent, often introverted, polite, charming, can bench twice his body weight, but know one knows this because he wears sweaters a lot

Dork - not necessarily smart, little sense of social grace or appropriateness (therefore sometimes extroverted), an oddball with uncommon hobbies or pasttimes that he doesn't bother to hide

A variation would be "Geek" - which is a guy with well-versed obsession (in computers, bomb building, the history of Star Wars) who is deliberately anti-social

Example

Nerd - reads Shakespeare alone at a cafe and is happy alone

Geek - plays D&D with some other geek friends and ignores the rest of the cafe as though it is populated by lesser beings

Dork - asks if anyone wants to see the sword collection he has in his trunk, is unphased by the lack of response and proceeds to try and talk to both the nerd and the geeks, even though he is clearly interrupting them, he loudly says, "Hey, that girl is HOT!" causing much eye rolling.

I'm finding the "nerd" term too broad. From what I've read nerd is anyone the "world" sees as inferior to winners, big money-makers etc. That aside, yes I married a nerd, so did he! I'm totally into sci-fi, he is a math geek. Great considering we homeschool, he loves to math with the kids, yuck not me. I also love classical music, and history, talk about nerdy!

My Hubby refers to himself as a computer geek...I think it's comfirmed with the whole 3 computers in the house which he refers to as the "network".
We have 4 in the house, yes, "networked", but I'm far from being a computer geek. I've literally just returned from buying a new video card for one of my computers, but I bought the wrong one, PCI instead of AGP. A computer geek would never make that mistake - it's one of the cardinal sins of geek-dom. :p
