i suppose that if you spend the time praying, that you would otherwise spend eating, then it stands to reason that people would lose weight!

Seriously though, I believe in the power of prayer, but i also know that we have to help ourselves and not expect God to get us out of every difficulty that we find ourselves in. Bad habits, excessive steroid medication, quitting smoking a couple of years ago, have all led to my weight gain. I am making steps to improve my health though, and hopefully little by little, i'll get my head around sensible eating strategies.

I think as far as changing bad habits; there is a partnership between me and God. I am grateful He gave me this miraculous body to inhabit and I have a responsibility to take care of it (kind of like a leased car). Still, the flesh is weak so I feel like it is appropriate to pray for strenth and willpower.

I should cast my donuts to the Lord

How witty was that!

On a nother note, i have total trust in the LORD. but i have a sinful nature and a desire to bring pleasure into my life, by eating appealing foodstuffs. But I can't eat all what i want and then expect God to reduce my weight. No effort required weight loss just does NOT happen. Unless of course a person is ill.

Well, I didnt post yesterday, but the day still went well! I did some yard work and had some extra calcium via a homemade shake.

I am sleeping much better with the extra activity and tomorrow I should be able to see my hubby tomorrow, as he returns from sea!

A rather funny story to share w/you:

A bible study girlfriend of mine was speaking about weighloss not that long ago when someone mentioned how important it was to trust in the Lord.

She shared of praying really hard to loose weight. Just a general type of prayer, Lord please let me loose weight. Well, she did, via an illness!

I guess it goes to show that being specific when you pray is important.

I ask for help in a program of health. But you know what, that may not mean the poundage I want dropped though.

Enjoy the day folks. Im looking forward to more yard work and eating what I need.

Sending Kind Regards,

Sherry

Hi Mis

There is nothing to LET, just hop right in! BTW, I see no gender difference in weight loss or gain. We all have this trouble and I welcome anyone even those who are not quite all that with the Christian faith - although, in all honesty, for many of our parts, we are doing this through the guiding, helping hands of the Lord, the one in the same found in the Holy Bible that rules the world of Christianity!

Enjoy the day folks!

I have food allergies. I didn't realize it, but when I cut certain foods from my diet, I really lost a lot of weight. So you might want to see if you might be allergic by eliminating foods in your own diet. With me, it was milk, sugar, and yeast.

I'm beginning to wonder if the medicine I'm on now is one that causes me to lose weight, though.

you have a point about food allergies Jenn.

I've had a bad day with food today. I have not had time to eat a proper meal today, so i've been grabbing at things (unhealthy) to snack on to keep me going. I am not looking forward to divulging any weight GAIN on Saturday!

And btw mistertee, you are most definately welcome to post in here, the more the merrier!

Another day of exercise this morning! I got rained out yesterday, so it was a little more difficult to remain on track after taking an extra day off. But, I'm back in the game! One more day in week 2.

ukok, I've realized that if I don't plan my meals in advance and go to the grocery every few days, then I'm a lot more tempted to go out to eat instead of cooking or grab something like frozen pizza as a quick fix. Maybe you can make a list of healthy snacks you like, and be sure to keep them well-stocked so whenever you need them, you can grab them and go.

Yesterday I didn't make the best food choices either, because I was lazy and didn't feel like making my lunch so I ate vending machine food! A can of pineapple pieces and half a bag of pretzels--plus a root beer and a Heath bar! But dinner was better, with carrot salad, baked parmesan tomatoes and turkey burgers. Yum!

Hope everyone stateside is gearing up for a fun 3 day weekend for the Fourth! woohoo!

wilderness,
i usually do a large weekly shop for groceries, and indeed i did actually do the family shopping on Monday. But i was hardly home long enough to do anything other than put the shopping away, so even though i had healthier foods to eat, the quickest , though most insubstantial were the unhealthy foodstuffs.

Then in the evening because i hadn't had anything very filling to eat, i raided the kitchen cupboards and spent ages snacking. Not good. It's a habit i have to break out of.

Bad habits are hard to break! I spent a couple of months having peanut butter M&M's and orange juice for dinner, if you can believe it! Not much food is easier to make than that! I even think it sounds weird now, but that or cereal is what I ate for dinner a lot because it was easy and I liked it.

I'm really dependent on making lists and having order and routine in my life, so I tend to list everything and then go by the list. My list helps me see if I need more veggies or fruit in my diet and what kind of snacks could be between meals.

I know what you mean about convenience foods not being filling--I ate the Heath bar because a) it was there(!) and I had some change and b) my lunch did not fill me up at all! I was starving by the end of the day, and I didn't have an active day at all! On the other hand, I've had an apple and peanut butter as the main portion of my lunch and been fine (add some cheese crackers and water, and that would be it).

wildernesse,

my real stumbling block is that i am often eating the goodies that i purchase for the children. Before i had my children, i didn't have to worry about what was in my fridge or cupboards, now i fill the cupboards up to the brim with healthier and unhealthier foodstuffs. Although my children eat very balanced diets, they are allowed a couple of snacks/treats a day - and it's because i have these things in my cupboards that i snack on them. My children are not overweight at all but they have incredible appetites and they are very often wanting to eat, so i have to have lots of food available.

It's me that needs to be disciplined though, and i don't want my children to have to go without stuff just because i can't control my bad eating habit's, so i don't want to not allow them their treats.

I have to deal with this somehow. I have been swimming to improve my health. I swim 2 or 3 times a week, about 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile each time. It takes a while because i have chronic asthma. But so far, although it is helping to tone up my body, i have no weight loss whatsoever, and i have been going there for about 6 or 7 weeks.
i suppose i was expecting to see a drop in weight, but i know that my insides are becoming healthier even if there isn't a weight loss. The excercise has to be doing my heart and lungs some good!

uk, I can definietly relate to the kid thing. I have two young boys and they just don't seem that interested in healthy low fat foods
In addition, I seem to be the "human garbage disposal" often eating the kids' leftovers; so I think I need to let that go! I just hate to throw away food.

Here's a challenge to my diet; we're going on holiday to the beach next week. This means eating out a few nights and, well just being on vacation means eating lots of junk. Any suggestions?

Sad to say it guys, but....

Im so glad to hear there are others out there that do the same thing with Kids.

Ugg, what a terrible day and age this is to have kids with the advances in food prep. Gone are the days when veggies came from the garden and kids didnt have OR KNOW about anything else!

You know, now that my kids can read, I sometimes find myself wishing otherwise. If the lable says healthy, they say NO WAY. What is it with kids?

I have indeed wasted so much food and guilt in trying to get those kids to eat well. Guilt cause food gets wasted and guilt cause they go to bed hungry.

Thats the hardest thing - when they refuse to eat yet I dont give in to the junk they want. I cant stand those days - detest them!

Well,

Ive done ok this week. I did a ton of house work with a big ole bounce in my step yesterday and got a bit of a workout in with that.

Ive not been having seconds or cookies/sweets of any kind. Ive been taking in more calcium lately.

I can not wait for my garden to mature. I want to pick and can and make good for you things. My kids will most likely need an IV in their refusal to eat.

Well, enjoy the day and STAY AWAY FROM THE KID FOOD.

We need to come up with a way to get them to eat the foods we need to eat - and not the way KRAFT foods is doing it!

RTH:

I would not feel guilty for your children going to bed hungry! Not a bit! They chose not to eat what you had provided, and being hungry is the consequence. If they dislike the consequences, then they will learn to eat the food you provide! (And I am sure that you are providing good food!) Their hunger is their responsibility!

My mother always told us that she didn't run a restaurant, we could eat what she prepared or not!

Even though I don't have children, I know what you are talking about. Before I got married, I never bought cokes or much candy--but my husband likes to keep that in the house. He just eats it when he wants to, but I eat it because it's there! So, I have to try to keep out of his stash of goodies.

I'm glad that y'all are getting moving some. It's good for you, even if you're not seeing dramatic weight coming off. We are living healthier lives when we move ourselves around.

For those of you with kids, you could try subsituting some sort of fruit for one of the snacks that your kids ususally eat. There's so much fresh available right now, canteloupe, watermelons, peaches, nectarines, berries, etc. Those are sweets that are good for them and you.

I can't wait until my peppers are ripe, either, RTH! I have about 10 on one plant and a half dozen on the other and they're still blooming. We'll have peppers every day once those babies get ripe--stuffed peppers, roasted peppers, sauted peppers, peppers in our salads. . mmmm. It will be like when I was a kid and we had fresh veggies every day of the week--squash, beans, corn, although when cabbage was in season, it wasn't as great! Cabbage every day gets tiring much quicker than fresh corn every day!

Stephen: Are you taking a cooler of goodies with you on vacation? If you plan on taking drinks, bring along bottled water as an alternative--and other snacks that can be an alternative--grapes, pretzels, apples. With that said, you are on vacation and this is a special time where you should (IMO) have things you don't usually have.
