  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

True. If I'm going to go hunting, I'm only going to kill what I can fit into my freezer or the freezers of family and friends.
You will only be allowed to kill so many animals, it's not your choice.

It is more than likely that these shooters were hired by the government to thin out these very destructive FERAL hogs.
We have a friend who was a government hunter in Texas for many yrs. I don't remember him ever talking about hogs but he did shoot coyotes from a helicopter when the coyote population got out of hand.

If you look at the end of the video, it shows their 1-800 number.

EDIT -apparently they are a private service for hire and take all major credit cards.

The helicopter business is advertising their business, that does not mean the hunters are not paid for by the government, specifically the Fish and Game or Wildlife Department. At the end in the credits it lisedt the Wildlife...something I can't remember exactly what it said but it was the first credit listed.
The government often hires outside contractors and their equipment such as the helicopter and pilot.
I have looked by the laws in Texas but it is possible that they were licensed private hunters. I'll try to look it up.

Probably they do it all, huh. Public and private lands, depending on the need.

You are correct. In Texas licensed hunters can hunt HOGS from a helicopter. It's inexpensive too. A two hr. hunt for up to 4 shooters is $3,299.

Frankly, that is not hunting that is shooting and imo, is justified in this case.

There is not really much for public lands in TX. 95.8% of TX is privately owned land. The government works with landowners because of the destruction to the economy and natural environment.
These hogs don't just threaten farmer's crops and livestock production, they also eat the natural feed that white-tail deer and other animals survive on.

Sporting.

But I suppose in reality, it's not for sport. I hear they can be destructive, but seems like there would be a better way. I assume they gather the carcasses/meat and it goes to good use.

A poison/feed system is being developed that will only allow feral hogs to feed (it recognizes their grunts). Other animals are excluded from feeding, even receiving an electric shock to keep them away.

You say potato, I say potauto. ;)

Wasn't that, I was only pointing out how they wanted it all, as in "what a bunch of pigs!"

But don't get me wrong, I love pigs/hogs...they go quite well with potatoes or patautoes.

When I think of a pot auto I think of an old car beyond repair filled with soil and dung and growing flowers that sprout through the windows :)

Once I saw an old headboard screwed to a wooden frame in someones front lawn with flowers growing out of it...

...Now that's a literal "flowerbed".

I saw a sofa on pinterest rococo style, the seat stuffing taken out and the frame filled with soil and white narcisses grew in it. Very beatiful. I have an old one of dark wood up in another house in the garden and thought maybe i'd plant red parrot tulips or similar in it some year.

There's a lot of local hunting groups in many states that will take you on a hunt for a usually small fee. I would check your area to see what's around and start calling people to figure out what you'd like to do.
