My friend Derek was just over and he apparently decided I need to widen my musical horizons yet again. So he made me a cd with many differen (must full length) cds from the following bands:

Billy Bragg & Wilco
Broken Social Scene
Death Cab for Cutie
Nick Drake
Postal Service
Sparta
William Shatner -***???

Ooo you're lucky (minus Shatner, maybe), at least in my opinion. I love Wilco and Nick Drake, and DCFC and Postal Service are pretty cool too. I've also heard a lot of good things about Broken Social Scene.

Oh very good then. You seem to have pretty good taste in music. I will give them a listen tomorrow and report back.

Nick Drake is cool , he died a long time ago , he was very young , about 27 I think ,he was extremely tall , his music is always an obsession for thousands of new fans every year.

If you are a fan of U.F.O. (I am) you will have seen his sister , Gabrielle Drake.

Nick Drake is the only one I've heard out of that group (well, except for Bill Shatner, but I try to block that out). Definately a great sound there. Very folksy, very moody, and very real. What I've heard of his has stayed with me for a very long time. I was shocked to know how young he was, I'd have figured he was in his 40s by the sound of his music.

I just checked half.com and it seems Island Records is coming out with remasters of his work.

Oh Nick Drake totally sounds like something I would be into then. Im gonna have to give it a listen.

Yah so anyways teh reason why he gave me this cd is because Sparta is playing with Copeland and Further seems forever at the Commodor in Vancouver the end of Nov, and he wants me to go with him. As well my friend heather is planning on going too, and they are desperatly trying to drag me there. Anyways.... Im always up for live music, but I want to make sure its something I can at least stand before paying $20 to go. If anything it will be a night in Van which would be sweet.

Im sorry Josh, but I actually think I am beginning to really like death cab....:sorry:
Even though they happen to be playing at a great venue while you're in Portland, I don't think I want Death Cab for Cutie to be our first concert together :sigh:

Assuming they actually come to Portland. Though with their lost lyrics and letters being returned, I'm guessing they will.
