i really like broken social scene. it's a band that has like 11 members and are from canada. they're really good. but you do have to be in the mood to listen to them. i personally am not a fan of the alt-country scene (although there are a few bands that i like), but i just am not all that crazy about that influence. wilco can get a little country for my tastes. my ex was OBSESSED w/them, so i listened to them a fair amount and saw them a couple of times. i really like when their stuff gets harder and they really rock out. that is good. my fav. album of theirs is the newer one (i think it is more rock than the others and a little less country)--a ghost is born. i'm also not all that much into folk stuff, so nick drakes not exactly my style, but i enjoy some of his stuff once in a while. don't know sparta, but have heard of them. i'm sure you'll probably enjoy all of the stuff; it's all fairly accessible music and easy to listen to....
