How does one start off writing a memoir?

Is it as if you're writing a novel, except everything that happened is true?

ALso, if you're gonna change some names for the sake of protection, should I let the reader know?

Explain to me the craft of a memoir~

Thanks!

i would think it's like starting off a novel. give it some interesting beginning so the reader doesn't glance at the first paragraph and go "oh, boring..."

if you want to change names that's up to you. the reader doesn't really have to know. it depends if you're going to publish it. if so maybe include a short introduction with something like "names have been changed for the protection of people's characters" or whatever.

i would suggest not including every single intricate detail. people would generally think you eat three meals a day and maybe a snack or two. unnecessary information would bore the reader. keep it upbeat and interesting. that's about all i can tell you.

i would also say this, just use the things that played a major role in your life. like, buying a new t-shirt would be very boring for the reader to read. ;)
