  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Salam to everybody ,

Infact I thought to write this topic for the sake of pure knowledge not for blind argument or any other purpose .

I know that there are many persons here who may don't know much about Islam ( real Islam ) . So I am writing this thread .If any one wants to know something about Islam he can ask and I will try to give him a complete and sufficient answer as much as I can .

this is a personal attempt which devoted only to serious people to clarify some ambiguity about my religion which I am proud about .

Does Islam consider the Lord Jesus the Christ as just an "ordinary prophet" and the one prophecied to come all the way back to Genesis? Peace.

John 1:29 on the morrow John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, `Lo, the Lamb of God, who is taking away the sin of the world;

Hebrews 9:28 so also the Christ, once having been offered to bear the sins of many, a second time, apart from a sin-offering, shall appear, to those waiting for him--to salvation!..... Hebrews 8:12 because I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawlessnesses I will remember no more;' --

Greetings Raja,

I have a question that would involve more of a personal opinion than a text-book answer. Since you seem to be encouraging an exchange of ideas rather than a debate, I thought this would be the best place to ask.

I have spoken to Muslims many, many times about ideas concerning religious philosophy, spirituality, and the ideals of Islam in general. They, knowing I am non-muslim, some knowing that I am Pagan, have been very kind and generous in keeping most of the discussion on a spiritual level, rather than drawing it into a "this is right/this is wrong" sort of discussion.

Now, have I been lucky so far, that I am meeting Muslims able to discuss spirituality without the need to proselytize? Or is there something in the ideals in Islam that encourages such an open-minded discussion?

Kindest regards,

When I read through the Quran, as I remember it, there was more than one passages saying something like “do not befriend Jew or Christians”…I’ve always assumed this is some type of ambiguous translative misnomer; but, I still curious to what it does in fact mean when read directly in Arabic within the context of Islam.

What is the view of the root of sin in Islam? Is it like protestant Christian idea of the Satan tricking man away from G-d? or, the Jewish idea of forces within the self? Or, is it simply viewed as a choice we have the capacity to make?

welcome my dear friend

Islam considers Phrophet Jesus as not a mere " prophet " but one of the most greatest prophets .

and Qura'an has mentioned the name of 5 prophets as the greatest among other prophets , they are NOAH, ABRAHAM , MOSES , JESUS AND MOHAMMAD.

of course this does not mean that other prophets were not great .

and in our religion , all muslims have to believe in Jesus ( pbuh ) . and if any muslim doen not believe and respect Jesus as a Holly Prophet sent by Allah the Almighty , he will not be consider as muslim unless he believes in Jesus as well as he believes in Mohammad .

thanks for your question and if you want to know fruther more just let me know .

Salam dear Druweid

First of all let me thank you and other members who honored me by participating in my thread . I am glad that you and others asked serious questions and take this discussion seriously without any attempt to abuse or defame each other .

You could understand me good when you said that I am encouraging an exchange of ideas rather than a debate . in fact what I want is not a sophisticated debate , what I want is just an amicably exchange of each other's ideas .

I – like you – dislike that kind of discussion which is "this is right/this is wrong"!

And now let me answer you frankly . yes you were lucky my friend to find those open minded Muslims and share ideas with them . I am saying this because – regrettably- many muslims nowadays have distort the meaning and the essence of real Islam by their irresponsible behaviors !

I am a Muslim but this does not mean that I am going to praise Muslims whatever they do . our Qura'an teaches us to say the truth whatever the situation is . I am not saying that all Muslims today are bad , but unfortunately the majority of them have harmed Islam more than its enemies ! there are , of course , good Muslims around the world but this is not enough or sufficient . our ancestors were better than us and because of them Islam has spread and entered to Asia , Africa , Europe .

So I always- in any discussion- prefer to point to a very important matter, that we have to distinguish between Islam and Muslims .

Islam is a great religion and it is perfect , no one can find any fault or vice in its principles and concepts . what some Muslims or most may do now is not the measurement that we should follow to judge on Islam .

The same thing with other religions , we all know that alcoholic , adultery , cheating , stealing etc all are forbidden in Christianity , Judaism and Islam . but if there are people from any of these religions doing such things this does not mean that the fault is in the religion . Hint it ?

Let me tell you about a very important concept in Islam , which is the tolerance and respect for others whatever those others may be different .

Islam is not only encourages open-minded discussion , rather it supports this concept and orders all Muslims to adopt it in any treatment with people from other religion or culture .

If you read the historic books about Islamic conquests you will notice that there were firm and rigid instructions always are told to the armies before they move to any land . they were ordered to not kill any woman , child or old people , not destroy a tree or a house , and – which is our point here – not disturb any one who was involved in his worship ( doesn't matter if he adopts another religion ) .

And during the Islamic rule , many people had lived under the Islamic rule without any annoyance . the very clear and wonderful example we can take was Egypt . for many centuries Egypt was under the Christian rule of Roman and at that time Egyptian Christians were oppressed and they could not feel free in doing their rites . when Islam has dominated, Egyptian Christians enjoyed the absolute freedom to be as they were and make their rites as they want . and because of this tolerance by Islam , huge numbers of them converted into Islam . and in this present moment Islam still the first religion in Egypt and Christians are just a minority .

Same things happened in Asian countries , Islam never spread by sword as many people in west have said . what made many people converted to Islam is its great tolerance with other .

Consider these verses from the Holly Qura'an :

Call unto the way of thy Lord with wisdom and fair exhortation, and reason with them in the better way. Lo! thy Lord is best aware of him who strayeth from His way, and He is Best Aware of those who go aright.
16:125

This is a guidance for every Muslim to be always polite and tolerant with non-Muslims . we are ordered to argue with other in a very polite manner whatever they may act against us :

Say: O People of the Scripture. Come to an agreement between us and you: that we shall worship none but Allah, and that we shall ascribe no partners unto Him, and that none of us shall take others for lords beside Allah. And if they turn away, then say: Bear witness that we are they who have surrendered (unto Him).
3:64

And consider what Qura'an says about non-Muslims , people of the scripture :

Among the People of the Scripture there is he who, if thou trust him with a weight of treasure, will return it to thee. And among them there is he who, if thou trust him with a piece of gold, will not return it to thee unless thou keep standing over him.
3:75

to be follow....

Despite many people of scripture have said many bad things about God the Almighty , He describes them honestly in Qura'an and teaches us to be always straight and just whatever other may mistreat us :

They are not all alike. Of the People of the Scripture there is a staunch community who recite the revelations of Allah in the night season, falling prostrate (before Him).
3:113

They believe in Allah and the Last Day, and enjoin right conduct and forbid indecency, and vie one with another in good works. They are of the righteous.
3:114

And whatever good they do, they will not be denied the meed thereof. Allah is Aware of those who ward off (evil).
3:115

this is a firm principle in Islam , we are not asked to say to people " you are wrong and we are right " , we just ordered to display our Islam and argue with others in a very tolerant and rational way . there is no forcing or imposing at all :

Say: (It is) the truth from the Lord of you (all). Then whosoever will, let him believe, and whosoever will, let him disbelieve.
18:29

the concept of diversity is explained much in our religion , so we have no problem in accepting others whether they agree with us or not :

Had Allah willed He could have made you (all) one nation, but He sendeth whom He will astray and guideth whom He will, and ye will indeed be asked of what ye used to do.
16:93

Then, if they turn away, thy duty (O Muhammad) is but plain conveyance (of the message).
16:82

the way to let other know about our religion is only through the rational argument and logical discussion .
even in the case of Pharaoh who dared to claim that he is God the Almighty , God sent to him two holly prophets Moses and his brother and commanded them not to blame Pharaoh or accuse him for what he has done , but to argue with him in a very soft and rational manner :

Go, both of you, unto Pharaoh. Lo! he hath transgressed (the bounds).
20:43

And speak unto him a gentle word, that peradventure he may heed or fear.
20:44

it is like this how things should be go on in our dealing with others and discussing with them . there is no room for bigotry or intolerance at all. there is only open – minded and readiness to hear from the other side. assume that we went through a discussion and we could not reach at agreed point , each side insist that he has the right . in this case we are ordered to respect other's opinion and never disparage them . because God Has told us that He himself – in the Resurrection day - will be the arbitrator between all groups, this concept is repeated many times in Qura'an :

Lo! those who believe (this Revelation), and those who are Jews, and the Sabaeans and the Christians and the Magians and the idolaters. Lo! Allah will decide between them on the Day of Resurrection. Lo! Allah is Witness over all things.
22:17

And the earth shineth with the light of her Lord, and the Book is set up, and the Prophets and the witnesses are brought, and it is judged between them with truth, and they are not wronged.

39:69

And the Jews say the Christians follow nothing (true), and the Christians say the Jews follow nothing (true); yet both are readers of the Scripture. Even thus speak those who know not. Allah will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection concerning that wherein they differ.
2:113

I am sorry for make it so looong ! but I wanted to explain to you this important concept in Islam which – as you yourself noticed – make us , or rather incite us , to be open-minded and tolerant with others .

Best regards

Just as Jesus was Perfect? A religion can be "perfect" but not all the people in it are "perfect".

Was muhammad "Perfect" when Gabriel supposedly vistited him? If Islam is perfect, why are not ALL mulsims "perfect"?

5046. teleios tel'-i-os from 5056; complete (in various applications of labor, growth, mental and moral character, etc.); neuter (as noun, with 3588) completeness:--of full age, man, perfect.

Phil 3:14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. 15 Therefore let us, as many as are mature/perfect [#5046], have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you. 16 Nevertheless, to [the degree] that we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us be of the same mind. 17 Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern.

If christianity is the true religion, why aren't all christians perfect. Sorry LLoJ, I just thought your premise was wrong, and I thought it be better for me to say it because you might listen hearing it from a christian. I don't think Raja intended this thread to become like another fierce argument.

Salam Dear friend

Look my friend , Islam never be a religion of hatred or intolerance with other people . in the contrast , Islam commands Muslims to accept others whatever they are , live in peace with them, love them and be good in treating with them.

But what you meant is maybe understood incorrectly by you because of many reasons :
First , because the translation itself .
Second, because if any one try to take Qura'an separately , this will lead to misunderstanding of many concepts and ideas .

If you check up the Qura'n verses , you will find many verses incite Muslims to be friends with others and to live with them in peace :

This day are (all) good things made lawful for you. The food of those who have received the Scripture is lawful for you, and your food is lawful for them. And so are the virtuous women of the believers and the virtuous women of those who received the Scripture before you (lawful for you) when ye give them their marriage portions and live with them in honor, not in fornication, nor taking them as secret concubines. Whoso denieth the faith, his work is vain and he will be among the losers in the Hereafter.
5:5

we can live with people from various religions or even non-religious people , we have to ask about them , share them their happiness and sadness , congratulate them in their special occasions , give them gifts , let them do their rites freely etc…
if we can marry from Christians or Jews , how this will be consider as something related with " not be friend with them " ?

but even the doctrine of fight " Jihad " in Islam is devoted to protect non- Muslims from injustice . look at this great verse :

Those who have been driven from their homes unjustly only because they said: Our Lord is Allah. For had it not been for Allah's repelling some men by means of others, cloisters and churches and oratories and mosques, wherein the name of Allah is oft mentioned, would assuredly have been pulled down. Verily Allah helpeth one who helpeth Him. Lo! Allah is Strong, Almighty.
22:40

here Muslim will fight in behalf of non-Muslims and he may sacrifice himself to uproot the injustice over non-Mulsims!!

you will notice here that God Made the word " cloisters " and " churches " before the word of " mosques " !! the preference here is made for Christianity and Judaism 's worship places !!

the concept which you talked about , you may took it from this verse :

O ye who believe! Take not the Jews and Christians for friends. They are friends one to another. He among you who taketh them for friends is (one) of them. Lo! Allah guideth not wrongdoing folk.
5:51

but here there is something else , here the Arabic word in origin not related with the meaning of friendship , it related with the meaning of supporting non-muslims over Muslims .
as a Muslim , you are not allowed to support non-Muslim against a Muslim . this meaning is revealed more in another verse :

Let not the believers take disbelievers for their friends in preference to believers.
3:28

the word " disbeliever " here it self is not like what it means in the translation . we should be aware of the meaning of the original word in Arabic itself . because even Muslims might be called " disbeliever " in some cases .
but if there is any injustice come over a non-Muslim from a Muslim , here Muslims should not support that Muslim in his unfair treatment .

this point needs more explanation , I will just stop here but if you need more just tell me .

the second point in your question about the sin . the view of the root of Islam is a mixture of the point of view of both Christians and Jews !

sin may come because of Satan or from Self . God Has told us about the Satan and his enmity to us . God warns us from Satan and from his tricks. And warns us too from our selves because human self naturally like disobedience , it prefers to satisfy its needs and desires . so Man should control himself and reconcile it to follow the right way even if it is hard and undesirable.

However , Allah told us that if we fall in fault and committee a sin , then we should blame not Satan but ourselves !

Because we already know about the enmity of Satan and his continual attempt to seduce us . he will be sent to Hell and we know that so why we don’t be aware from him and his tricks ? why we put ourselves with him in Hell ?

When Satan has seduced Adam and Eve , Qura'an tells us that when they repented to God , they did not blame Satan but they have said that what happened was their own fault :

But Satan caused them to deflect therefrom and expelled them from the (happy) state in which they were
2:36

here Qura'an tells us that it was Satan who seduced them , but when they ask God to forgive them they said :

They said : Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If Thou forgive us not and have not mercy on us, surely we are of the lost!

7:23

I wish that I make it clear to you .

Best regards
