  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Any one else sick of hearing about nirvana?

Ok, honestly, Nirvana's not bad, and they wrote some cool catchy music. But, i am sick and tired of hearing about them, and i'm sick and tired of hearing people glorify Kurt Cobain like he was a "god among men". He was a good songwriter, yeah, but he couldn't play the guitar, there, i said it. His guitar work consisted of overly emphasized power chords, and the occasional two measure simple solo. Nothing impressive whatsoever. And i hear people saying things like: Nirvana, the band that changed music forever! Hang on, what??? Not really, i mean they did change it at the time, and took it in a whole new direction, but as far as applying it to todays music, that's really stretchin it. They were just another band, they were pretty good, but not "one of the best bands ever". And honestly, during the 90's, there were alot better bands out there in my opinion. For example: Smashing Pumpkins, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, etc. And i know this is just my opinion, and there are some people that are huge fans and that's cool, but i just can't say that they were "one of the best bands ever". Honestly, they were cool, but come on. I'm just curious if anyone else feels the same way.

you're not the first person to feel that way, i for one totally agree with you, only i can't stand any of their songs. I was afraid that when Dimebag died that his status would elevate to Cobains and spawn all these fanboys and fanboy-ish comments and descriptions. It did to an extent but thank God it didn't get out of hand

Yes, I agree with you and most of the others who posted. I was in high school in the 80's, at the height of the hair-metal/glam-rock period, and that was what I was into.

Then, in '91, Nirvana exploded, and all the bands I was listening to suddenly dropped off the face of the planet. No more Cinderella, Stryper, Warrant, Kix, Trixter, Dangerous Toys, Poison; etc. The "grunge movement" had begun. Needless to say, I hated them for that, and never really appreciated them.

Looking back on that time period, though, I now have more of an appreciation for Nirvana and how they basically wiped the musical slate clean. Good grief, 99% of those hair-metal bands I loved were awful. ^_^

Of course, Nirvana spawned a lot of knock-off, cookie-cutter bands, which is always what happens when something new and innovative comes along.

I'm glad their "run" was short, though. In fact, I'm glad the whole grunge thing was short-lived. It's a shame that we still have bands beating that dead horse, like Seether...

Nirvana had good tunes and captured the zeitgeist of the time. This ensured that their memory and influence would endure.

I don't see what the problem is personally, if you don't like it then don't listen to it. anyway, I mean were the Beatles seriously the best band around at the time?

Yeah there music was pretty good but liking Nirvana has become somewhat of a fad. Sorry guys, but Kurt has been dead for awhile now. Let it go.

Why? Good music is good music, no matter how old it is.

ME!!!!

I'm sick of hearing about freaking nirvana! I just took custody of my 12 year old nephew and he thinks Cobain is the greatest- I think he's a selfish jerk who blew his head off.
I used to dance to nirvana when I was a stripper which should tell you where they stand in my book now that I love Jesus.

SawZaw - I totally agree. People talk about Nirvana like they do the Beatles, and it is completely unwarranted.
When I'm 45 and have kids, we're not going to be spending Saturday afternoons listening to "Nirvana's Greatest Hits" in the living room.
By then I think a lot of people will have forgotten about Nirvana.

At least by then the people who worship Kurt will have finally grown out of it.

Nowadays when I hear them I kinda think the man needed a diaper.
