  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Any one else sick of hearing about nirvana?

Send me some of your music, and I'll let ya know.

The band I'm with now doesn't have anything committed to tape, but we'll be playing in lot "N" this Saturday at Citizens Bank Park (we're opening for Jimmy Buffett). Come on out.

Can you give me some examples of your favorite songwriters?

Just off the top of my head...

Cole Porter, Johnny Mercer, Jule Styne, Hoagy Charmichael, and Felice and Boudloux Bryant, Lyle Lovett, Mac McAnally, Robert Earl Keen, Harlan Howard, Roger Miller, Buddy Miller, Keith Sykes, Randy Stonehill...

Very interesting selection. Not really rock music though. Several of those songwriters were born before 1910 and composed tunes for musicals. I honestly had to look up every person you listed. I did find Randy Stonehill's music to be all right though.

I think perhaps we're simply in two different musical worlds. Cobain's music is far from technically flawless. But I think there's merit in the feelings he conveys and in many of his hooks.

Good luck with the show. I haven't seen Jimmy play in quite some time.

But, even after all these years, they're still considered the cream of the crop of songwriters.

Quality lasts. Just a little over ten years after he killed himself, Kurt Cobain is very rarely mentioned as a talented songwriter while the people I listed are usually at the top of the list.

That's because their songs are timeless.

I don't think so.

I don't see how dischordant melodies and whining lyrics equal merit.

Good luck with the show. I haven't seen Jimmy play in quite some time.

Thanks.

I have friends who went on Thursday and say it was fantastic.

This will be my twenty third or twenty fourth show.
