Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds is an artist I just discovered in early November maybe?

His lyrics can be...interesting sometimes, none to say the least. They can also be thought provoking, one that I can think of is "There is a Kingdom" from The Boatman's Call. I've noticed there's somewhat of a spiritual side to them too. I've also noticed that there's usually some mention of a cat in the lyrics in at least one song on every CD :)

Tom Waits is another artist I've recently discovered.

G'day Jadis40,

I've been a Nick Cave fan since the 1980s and he has always had biblical imagery in his music.

I'd really recommend a spoken word CD called 'The Secret Life of the Love Song-The Flesh made Word, Two Lectures from Nick Cave'.

The second lecture is pretty much a sermon.

Cave says he studied religious art at art school to annoy his lecturers and talks about buying a KJV bible and how he was awestruck by the Old Testament God and how the New Testament changed his whole perspective on life.

This is from a recent interview: "Cave told me that he does not go to church, and that he is not affiliated with any particular branch of Christianity, but there is no question that his God is a Christian God. When I asked Cave if he had any interest in other religions, or in a broader, non-religious spirituality, he replied, "Oh, a passing, skeptical kind of interest. I'm a hammer-and-nails kind of guy."

Yep, I'm a Nick Cave fan. My Wife is a much, much bigger Nick cave fan.

So put us out of our misery, which quote did you use?

Ghost
I was preaching on the woman taken in adultery in John 8.:preach:

I used the Cave quote from one of his spoken word lectures because I read through a number of commentaries etc and he was the only one who speculated about what Jesus was doing writing on the ground.

'This seemingly distracted gesture, the stooping down and writing on the ground, is Christ accessing the God in Himself…Christ then delivers the line that dis-empowers his opponents, and what an extraordinary remark it is…and he stoops again to re-commune with God.'
