Stevie Nicks has released a new song to protest the U.S. Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade, and said writing the single might be “the most important thing I’ve ever done.”

Nicks, who's best known for being a member of the band Fleetwood Mac, discussed her new single “The Lighthouse” in an interview with People magazine. In that interview, she said the song was written in 2022, shortly after the Supreme Court determined that the U.S. Constitution does not contain a right to abortion and overturned the Roe v. Wade ruling that legalized abortion nationwide.

Nicks suggested that writing “The Lighthouse” might be “the most important thing I ever do.” Characterizing the single as an “anthem,” she highlighted her desire to “stand up for the women of the United States and their daughters and granddaughters — and the men that love them.”

Stevie is an icon and immensely talented. While I don't support the song I acknowledge few could come back as she's done in light of her struggles. The vocal chords are temperamental and watching the Lord redeem hers is inspiring. She taught me how to sing alto and for that I'll always be grateful.

I value those who use what He's given. Believer or not. It's easy to judge when you've never risked and played it safe. The unexceptional never change lives.

She performed it n SNL 10/12. Spooky and compelling.
You thought so? I thought it was definitely not her best work. Didn’t care for it. But she is not great performing live. The recorded version may be better.

Here is the video.

Still don’t like it.
I agree with you that it's not her 'best work'. I was underwhlemed after the hype I'd read about it.
Without the video, I'm not certain I would've known it was about abortion specifically.

I wasn't up Sat. Night but I did watch the replay videos, mainly because I wanted to see if Waddy Wachtel was still in the band (he is). I like Waddy, he's kind of an unknown journeyman musician that's played with lots of artists.
I did like the subtle rearranging of Edge of Seventeen for the SNL live performance.

The lyrics:

Verse 1]
I have my scars, you have yours
Don't let them take your power
Don't leave it alone in the final hours
They'll take your soul, they'll take your power
Don't close your eyes and hope for the best
The dark is out there, the light is going fast
Until the final hours, your life's forever changed
And all the rights that you had yesterday
Are taken away
And now you're afraid
You should be afraid
Should be afraid

For 70 whatever I am surprised she is still on the road. Reminds me of Justin hayward of the Moody Blues. Still on the road. In fact a lot of old timers still pretty good..

I know the intention was women's rights but the lyrics could be go Right or Left.

She had multiple abortions herself, and said without having her abortion, there would have been no Fleetwood Mac.

I hope she's proud.

Did Stevie Nicks mumble the words of the song as she did in the past? :D
You can hear how her voice has been doctored as compared to the live performance on SNL in the video. As far as word pronounciation, about the same imo. Everything is very fuzzy as usual with her audio and visuals.

I guess she couldn't afford birth control

Considering she's much older now and is a recovering drug addict, I can't say I'm too surprised.
