Ana,
Hello and welcome to the Forum.
“Hello. I would like to a house church, but I am not a leader and I would not know where to begin. Does anybody know what's the best way to start?”
Another family and I have begun a house church, but we are in Hervey Bay, Qld., Australia. I’d suggest a read of Ralph Neighbour, Where Do We God from Here? This book has been instrumental in starting a world-wide cell church movement. Cell church is Ralph Neighbour’s name for a house church.

Check out the Touch Ministries website for lots of resources for the cell church. However, I highly recommend this book as a starter for those contemplating planting a cell church.

Frank Viola is another prominent cell church leader, as is Jon Zens.

Sincerely, Spencer

I get his newsletter and have read 'God's Politics" - very good.

Don't worry about leadership issues at this stage. They aren't that necessary in a good home church anyway. Good teaching from within or without (videos, conferences, etc) are more important.

Ana,
Thank you very much. Do you ever listen Jim Wallace?
I receive some of his emailers from the Australian Christian Lobby.

As for leadership in the cell church, I am of the view that many of the cell/house churches I have visited are high on experience and low on sound teaching. Ask for God to bring an interactive Bible teacher to your cell church.

Pick a day in which you like to have bible study & church
Invite some friends and family on those days (People tell other People)
Stay Consistant (no matter who shows up)
I wish you luck & God Bless You!

I think that starting a cell church takes a little more planning than that.

I suggest that you do a little reading on the difference between a church with cells and a cell-based church (sometimes called a house church). See:
Touch Outreach Ministries
Ruach Ministries
“Building up the body,” Jon Zens
CellUK

A couple good books are:
Ralph Neighbour, Where Do We Go from Here?
Rethinking Church by Frank Viola & George Barna

You might like to take a look at the difference between the Traditional Church vs New Testament Church

Building Christian community in a functioning cell is very important for cell church life.

Hello. I would like to a house church, but I am not a leader and I would not know where to begin. Does anybody know what's the best way to start?

The best church I have been to was Hope Chapel in Austin.

I went to three home churches there. That was definitely where the best fellowship was.

Basically, just start one, with some friends. Three different ones there - all from three different groups of friends - went. The one with the older people was the best, but the younger people -- I really enjoyed fellowship with them.

I guess they just said, "Let's start to do a home church".

I actually found the sermons and such at the regular church boring. The guy would get into some weird stuff here and there. (As did some of the younger Christians.)

Just get some friends, meet up, and choose a certain chapter/verse/topic to discuss.

It is terrific to actually get to talk about such things with people, so often people do not like doing this.

I’ve been having a fellowship, or, Church in the Home, in my home, since 1977. My advice would be to make sure you have these three elements: Solid teaching from the Bible, a time to pray, and, most of all, LOVE.

While there are plenty of other things that you can do, sing, sharing time, etc., my opinion is that if you have those three you will indeed bless people.

Don’t be afraid to teach. You can always teach what you know and what you are learning. And, you can also find some good teachings on line that you could download, but listen to them first – if you believe it is a good solid teaching, then play it for your group.

Prayer time is really good – a time to get quiet and pray; there are many ways you can do this too. Giving people an opportunity to pray about what’s on their heart is a real blessing to a lot of people.

Love – I can’t stress this enough. Whoever comes in your front door, love them; don’t judge them or criticize them, or condemn them – just love them. People change from the inside first, and it’s the goodness of God that leads one to repentance.

I hope that helps – God bless you.

Mike
