• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I have a new method of anti SI that has kept me from cutting since April 14. That may not sound like long, but it's a start.

Everytime you are even slightly tempted to SI, think, "Satan, Satan is making me do this." Simple, I know, but for me it is effective, partly because I sometimes see SI as a constructive alternative, as strange as that may sound. I think it's better to hurt myself than someone else with my emotions. However, thinking of how SI is a temptation from Satan in repulsive enough that, no matter how much I want to SI, I can't.

Don't know if this will help anybody else, but it helped me a lot, so I thought I'd pass it on.

first of all i have to congratulate u on being cut free since april 14, thats a great achievement =D

this is a really good way of avoiding giving in... i know i do something similar... when i feel bad remind myself that satan wants me to feel bad and hurting myself, to pull me away from God... that just makes me all the more determined to beat this =D

i also used to think that it was better to hurt myself than others... but remember thats only your view if you were to ask the people who care about you you would find that they think the exact opposite

Part of the thing that makes me really not want to is when I see the cutting in others. I saw this one girl who cut really bad and it made me sick. It def discouraged me for a while from cutting myself. HOwever, the only way i was able to get free of it and take control was by repentence and God's deliverance.

Great advice and totally right on. I pray when I get the urge...mostly for strength to resist and such. Then I remember the other times I've won the battle (so to speak). It helps...well at least it helps me. And I also do the whole "this is satan, not me...I don't want to do this" So far so good, and it's been a year and almost 5 months.
