My Mum had a fall this afternoon and was rushed to hospital where she underwent a 3 hour operation to remove a subdural haematoma. She is now heavily sedated with a machine doing her breathing for her (because of the sedation). She is currently stable but will be kept unconcious for at least a day while they determine if they managed to remove all of the clot and whether there is further bleeding.

Daphne is in her 80's and is already very frail. I very much covet your prayers for her over these next few days.

Thank you all for your prayers.
Mum has been concious a few times this morning and been through a number or neurological tests, all of which have been good. She still has the breathing tube in, which probably will remain for at least another day, but on the whole the hospital staff have been commenting on how healthy she is.
The hospital is only allowing one designated visitor which is my older brother, but l as t night they allowed both of us, with his wife and my daughter to see her in ICU. We recognise that it was special treatment for which we are extremely grateful, but we aren't going to try and push for any more favours.
Glory to God!

Thanks be to God!
Mum has had the breathing tube removed and is now using an oxygen mask. My brother was observing her respond to the physio. She clearly understands their instructions and is responding appropriately. Unfortunately (or fortunately) the sedative she has been on has an amnesiac effect, so she won't remember anything of the last couple of days.

My Mum is still in ICU but has been steadily improving. There are times where her words get all mixed up when she speaks, which is of concern, but she also asked me to contact her eye specialist to let them know she would not be able to make her Monday appointment, so her memory hasn't been affected.
I am just so grateful that my Mum was outside when this happened, because if she was in her unit it would have been hours before she was discovered, and we would be attending her funeral instead.

A couple of days ago. Mum had a really bad turn. They had moved her out of ICU as they were very happy with her progress, then she suddenly began to really struggle to communicate and went downhill from there. She is back in ICU and has spent much of her time there unconscious. Although she has been able to respond to doctors requests to wiggle her toes or squeeze their hand, she hasn't really seemed conscious of who is there. The doctors are treating her for a UTI although urine tests have not been able to identify a specific bug due to antibiotics in her urine killing the bug before they had a chance to grow it in culture.
Thankfully she was improved last night. She is still unable to speak but I could see recognition in her eyes as we were talking to her.
