What is a "land claim artefact"?

Does that mean that if I dig something old from my ancestors day out of someone elses clay, that's my clay now?

What do you mean by "land claim artifact"? Some kids found an old lamp. Archeologically interesting, at least on the small level, no doubt. But what land claims does this artifact impact?
These increasing stories seem to be used to promote the idea of hereditary rights to territory. Political in nature to decrease sympathy for other claimants.. Egypt has been doing the same, but in order to promote tourism which collapsed after the political events of a few years back. Artefacts become tools to fulfil man's interests today, rather than for their original cultural purpose.

One can't legitimately claim that their land was stolen? I never knew that.

Wait. You think that occupation of land 2000 years ago is a reason their distant descendants should get it back. You can't be serious.

God gave the Jews the land and here we have more evidence of their presence there from 2000 years ago during the Roman occupation.
Don't you mean that god gave the romans that land, then?

God gave the land to the Hebrews, but they kept losing it due to bad behavior, to various oppressors. In the time of the Byzantine empire it was the Christian province of Palestine but under this regime, like those of the Ottomans the Jews were persecuted and marginalized. God owns the land, the primary contract is with the Jews.

Well, if were going to accept that source, then given the historical claims with in it, we should give "Israel" back to the Canaanites as the Israelites stole it from them.

The promise is from God, the Canaanites never knew Him. The Byzantines did know God but did not have a proper theology or understanding of the place of the Hebrew peoples in God's plan hence their overthrow by the rise of Islam which respected Jews but marginalized them as it also did Christians. The British also knew God but prioritized their national interests. The Zionist state today is also not a perfect picture of God's promise. But now there are Messianic Jews in Israel that can claim the promise with all that it means. It is because of them that all other claims are now null and void.

Well I don't know about all the rest. I will leave that for the "experts" to debate and decide, but goodness kudos for the kids. What a day that must have been! Perhaps it will make them think of that time over 2000 years ago stirring their imagination and hearts for all that time beheld :)

So another religious claim with no legal standing.

That is a really nice story, but this thread is about old artifacts being found in that land and those artifacts somehow giving weight to the land claims. The bible doesn't really factor into it.

Let's just hope that they can have that imagination stirred in private and that they aren't drawn into some kind of political game.

Unfortunately there is not a political entity in this world today that does not not use todays instantaneous technology to shamelessly exploit any story they can find to its maximum political advantage. But for the children I was hoping for something far different than what this corrupt world has to offer. Something very personal, far deeper, far more enriching, that relates to the time period the article was found. Only they would know what that is if they truly find it. Or "it" finds them.
