Jtb , whats wrong with that?
There is nothing wrong with the fact that this is how he makes his money but don't confuse it with ministry. Additionally what is most upsetting is that you cannot leave CF. You can never take yourself off of the roles so even if I don't want my membership contributing to Lee's income I have no choice. Well actually I do but the Ohio Attorney General has indicated that it would probably take litigation and I have no desire to do that.

jptdad have you ever worked debate team and outreach team and recovery team - many things are discussed in many threads that need to be between the member and staff many times - then there are also thread clean up issues which includes many members - their privacy matters too
Just as a loaner and I didn't see many more reasons for closing a report thread there either.

PM's are logged in Ministries reports as well.

I am quite aware of that but there is no promise of privacy on this board. As a matter of fact it is part of all that stuff nobody reads.

I repeat there is no good reason to keep the report threads closed except to hide inconsistency's and unfairness on the part of staff.

jtbdad- the people who have private things about them in reports deserve to have that protected. If you feel ok before God believing that I am lying to you then you will just have to believe it.

Someones desire to infringe on the privacy of someone else for whatever reason doesnt negate the other persons right to privacy imo. Staff can be removed from staff for violating a members privacy - regular members have not agreed to such nor are they bound by such.

Would these matters not be kept private in most churches?

So why not here?

Don't we have to put some trust in the fact that our moderators, with the help of God, are trying to do the right thing?

I think if our moderators are applying the rules in a fair and impartial manner, then they have nothing to fear from outside scrutiny

I work for a christian trust, and we must always operate in such a manner that if the MOH want to look at our books then we have nothing to worry about, and in the same manner with practice, we must always practice in such a manner that if an outsider wants to look at how we practice we have nothing to hide

Oh? There can be a lower standard here on a Christian forum compared to a Christian church?

Would you make a comment like that to me if we were face to face?

Sure. It would be a comment of commiseration...wouldn't it?

CF is first and foremost and will always be first and foremost a message board. If there are private things about individuals in reports it is because they have chosen to reveal it themselves. Or, someone broke a rule and revealed personal information contrary to the rules In the first case the individual should not have revealed the information, in the second the individual should be removed from membership. People need to remember that this, as a message board, is not a counseling office, Dr's office or even a pastors office it is a message board.

As for whether you are lying or not is not an issue with me. I was a staff member when the report threads were closed and I KNOW first hand what happens in closed report threads. I also know that it is the number one way to cover up poor moderation and inconsistent and unfair decisions made based upon personalities. For any staff member with significant experience to assert that this does not happen is the lie.

See the above comment.

Staff can be removed from staff for violating a members privacy - regular members have not agreed to such nor are they bound by such.
You are incorrect in two points here there is not a "Right to privacy" on a public message board.

Secondly members do agree not to divulge personal information about others when they become members. Additionally there are rules in place to remove such individuals.

Funny how some who did not "get it" with regard to OTHERS' privacy when it came to Beth Miqlat bes suddenly "getting it" now. Some of the same ppls this one heard raising the BIGGEST STINK AGAINST those who said "trust staff to do their jobs" and "let BeMi members have their privacy respected" are NOW saying those very SAME things in regard to keeping Reports closed (or limited access) and having private Staff conference rooms.

Hmmmm. Interesting indeed. We live in interesting times. :tutu:
Hi Moriah how've you been?

Hi Frietag you've nailed it. If there is nothing to hide (I don't buy that privacy issues occur that often) why hide it?

I think you should make your statement contingent on where those reports were located. I know that that was often a problem in the congregational area, but in theology, being a conglomeration of different denominations, we were very close to unbiased. Hey! You can even ask CL, one of the most ardent proponents of open reports, etc. She will tell you that theology struggled very hard to be fair.

I am not saying that poor moderation didn't happen, but some areas were much worse than others.

Since the numerous topics of discussion in this announcement thread have strayed pretty far from the OP, we are closing it.

If you would like to discuss/work through some of the issues that have been raised in this thread, please check out the Wiki/Rules Discussion forum. There are a number of related discussions in progress, and you can also start a thread there if you don't see the topic that interests you.
