• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Just to get this clear I am a CHRISTian (follower of Christ), when I get angry, at times I start speaking against Christians (like the strict, conservative, extermist ect...), because of all the people who condmen others using the Bible, and using the Bible as a tool of oppression. (Fred Phelps is a great example). I even started comparing Christians with Nazis (dont ask, I was ranting away, I dont really think that), but I build anger in me and let it out at times. But I do take interest in what Ghandi said, "I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.", thats sort of how I believe. Even though I am Christian (Liberal), anyway can anyone help me with this issue here? Im just a lay back Christian who follows The Twelve Commandments and what Jesus taught, thats it, not strict...

there are many ways I deal with righteous anger (vs unrighteous anger, ask God to help save you from sinning).

the first thing is prayerfully following Matthew 18:15, Jesus is saying "If your brother sins, go and show him his fault in private. If he repents, you have won your brother. If he does not repent, go find 2 more witnesses..." (I am paraphrasing NASB). I have done this often, you can do it face to face, in a note, e-mail, calling on the phone. It's about 50-50 chance if they will repent or not. You can see if there is continual hostility with that person, I think its a goat among the sheep, and they still need Jesus as Savior and don't seem to know Him. Don't fellowship closely with those ones. It is wonderful when there is repentence, it does happen.

then if there is more energy you would like to burn, you can continue in other active ways. I help with mailing bible correspondence classes to criminals. that is actually very productive work that helps me so much (and I hope and pray is helping criminals). also other ways to share God, Truth, and love. like pick up trash around your neighborhood, even e-mail or send cards to your local congressmen and representatives and Senators about things you would like to share. So many things we can do prayerfully. those are some things I do that help me release some of the anger I have about sin in these times, offering Jesus (the Answer) is great.

Well who is the sinner in this case? and what about judge not and you will not be judged? I dont think it is peoples job to go around "correcting" people who are doing things that are not bad, anything is fine, as long as it is not against The Twelve Commandments.

Hi,

I have similar feelings regarding other Christians. Part of me loves them, part of me hates them.

I just ignore them when they get that way and if I can't do that, I seperate myself from them. There isn't much point in ranting or arguing. I understand your anger though.

Hello friend, well, i understand how you might get angry with So-called Christians! However, there are a few things to think of......We are all sinners and we all make mistakes! i would say that it is not the Christians place to speak badly of others and point the finger. Indeed others may call themselves Christians, but they in their actions deny The Lord proving themselves to not be Christians....Perhaps if you are speaking about these people and their wrong-doings, make the distinction that they are not really Christians at all or they are Christians that are confused.....as in some ways we all are! Maybe try to be more concerned and pray for these paople!! God Bless!!!

I think God might be angry with some Christians too. It was the harsh, religious pharisees that Jesus got real angry with.

Zeena,

Thanks for those Scriptures. But there are others, which I will give you. In the Gospels we see Jesus expressing great compassion towards people, especially those who were not well regarded within the society of His day. Yet we see Jesus in quite another light when speaking about the religious leaders. Here are some verses.

Matt 23:13-15 "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the kingdom of heaven in men's faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to.
"Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are.

He then gives five more 'woes' and ends with Matt 23:33 "You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell?

Mark 11:15-17 On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple area and began driving out those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves, and would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple courts.

Luke 20:45-47 While all the people were listening, Jesus said to his disciples, "Beware of the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and love to be greeted in the marketplaces and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets. They devour widows' houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. Such men will be punished most severely."

I am not suggesting that all church leaders be included in those pronouncements. We have many godly leaders amongst us.

Yet, we need a fresh look at quite a lot. Phillip Yancey "The Jesus I Never Knew" and Brian McClaren's "A Generous Orthodoxy" are very readable and thought provoking. Dalls Willard "The Divine Conspiracy" is more meaty, but also very rewarding.

I agree!!

Jesus was VERY clearly called out the Pharisees and the Sadducees sin in being judgmental and condemning. He would angry with them and yet with others he was compassionate. He spoke to them ALL, however, with love as his source. It was his love of God and love of others that centered around all that he did. He spoke out against the Pharisees and the Sadducees because they were taking God's Word, Way, and Law and teaching it WRONG....they were misconstruing it.
Should we do anything about it? Sure....but we need to first and foremost come towards people and point out their errors like Christ did, with compassion. I think Christians who are not presenting the Gospel correctly need to be told where their errors are. Jesus did want the Pharisees/Saduccees doing it, why would he want Christians doing it?

Christians aren't always the most reasonable people at times. Nor are they always right. And even though we're all human and therefore imperfect, it's not right to live a Christian life in hipocrisy. You can't say you're a follower of Christ and then not even try to live up to His standards. It's getting worse, the overall population of people claiming to be Christian. And yes, it is necessary to rebuke them for errors in doctrine. But be sure that everything you say and judge on is purely Biblical, because after all, it's God's standards which determine what is right and what is wrong.

And for my curiousity, what would you consider to be the twelve commandments. For the better portion of my life, I've thought there only to be ten. I'm just as laid back as you are, some have even referred to me as the most down to earth Christian they've ever met. But I'm just doing what I think the world needs most of. It needs people like us who can understand both sides of religous argument, almost a compromise between the secular and uber-religous worlds. Not that we're comprimising our own morals, no. It's just that when the world has grey areas that need to be confronted, it's the down to earth, laid back guys who need to be there to make intelligent, rational, reasonable compromises. Anyways, that rant I just did was just letting you know I can relate. Oh wells.

Hoping for the best.~

I think they are referring to the Ten Commandments along with the two Commandments Jesus' added (Love God and Love Your Neighbor). That being twelve total.

People aren't going to behave in a way becoming unto them all the time. They won't always act in a way that is representative of the fact they have Christ in their hearts. Just focus on your own relationship with God and where he leads you and try not to worry about other folks and how they treat others. Pray for them, I've found that works wonders when you have to deal with people that often cause you to feel feelings of anger.

I also have this problem and like you I get angry at Christians who are self righteous and like pointing fingers at others and sad to say there seem to be a lot of them about especially on the Net. At the moment I also have a lot of anger with certain Christians who are obsessed with the End Times and keep predicting WW3 and a nuclear holocaust. For instance when the Israel/Hezbellah (sp?) conflict was going on some Christians on another (otherwise excellent) message board were saying WW3 was about to break out any day now and then they started spreading a story that Iran was going to nuke the US/Israel or both on Aug 22nd last year. As I suffer with my nerves this had me really worried so much that I did not sleep at all on the night of Aug 21st. When I asked these Christians nicely to refrain from all this scaremongering I was briskly told that these threads were being posted in order to get us "ready" for the Rapture. Now the same people who started the Aug 22nd are now predicting another date for an Iranian nuclear attack. I get so angry with these scaremongers especially as one of them implied that if I was more "spiritual" I would not worry about what would happen to me but would rather be inspired to witness more!!! The thing is I am still angry at these people and that is not good.
