Boanerge, you sound like you really have searched and found what is right for you, that is wonderful. Don't worry about many of us being pushed away by certain christians. I have a lot of respect for your faith. I have read the bible a few times and see a lot of truth in it. It parallels my beliefs. I just think the message jesus sent is lost in dogma, and I don't think he is the only messenger with truth. what christians call the holy spirit, the feeling they get that comes with their religion, i have experienced too. but it was not while praying to jesus, and i do not attribute it to the christian god. like i have said before, labeling it isn't important to me, but it is important that I am not part of your religion because quite frankly, i don't need the headache. and i don't want to have to rationalize and justify the behavior in the bible i find reprehensible. could it be the same god? perhaps. and if so, the bible is so off it isn't worthy of the respect it is given, because my god wouldn't do those things. what i believe in works for me, and it works very well, so please...if you do not think i am "close enough to the kingdom" as you say, fine. but please keep that to yourself. because i don't think i can be closer, and leaving my path for any reason is the last thing i would ever do. i would never risk leaving what i have found.

nice to meet you :) and welcome to CF.

If you didn't get the Holy Spirit from Jesus, Shaman, how do you know you have experienced the same thing? You couldn't have experienced the same thing because the Holy Spirit is Jesus inside us. That is how we know who He is. Jesus talks about the ones who don't want heaven. You fall into that category. You seem to think you are better than the people in the bible and don't need forgiveness. I got news for you, Shaman, you are no better than the rest of us. You just like to think so.

If you didn't get the Holy Spirit from Goddess, Carico, how do you know you have experienced the real thing? You couldn't have experienced the real thing because the Holy Spirit is the Goddess inside us. That is how we know who She is. The Goddess speaks to us of self-righteous zealots. You fall into that category. You seem to think you know better than all the faithful and spiritual people in the world and know what path they should follow. I got news for you, Carico, you are no wiser of better informed about spiritual things than the rest of us. You just think so.

A lot of the "faithful and spiritual" people in this world seem to think they know better than Jesus. They probably even think they can walk on water! The people you look up to for spiritual things are simply human beings who have no more answers than any other man. They just think they do. Your claim to spirituality is no less zealous than mine. Mine is at least based on a real deity.

I've talked to a lot of atheists but haven't communicated with people who hate Jesus as much as you guys do. Is that something you're proud of? If so, why?

Strawman Carico.

I don't hate Jesus, that would require believing in him, which I don't.

I find Fudies somewhat distastful, but that's a different matter entirely.

If he existed at all I probably do know better than a carpenter from Galilee 2000 years ago. Formal education wasn't readily available to unemployed tradesmen back then.

They probably even think they can walk on water!
No, but then I don't believe he could either.

The people you look up to for spiritual things are simply human beings who have no more answers than any other man. They just think they do.
Kind of like you?

Your claim to spirituality is no less zealous than mine. Mine is at least based on a real deity.
Actually I'm a good deal less zealous. You see, unlike you, I understand the difference between a belief and a proven fact. Your last statement is a prime example. To make it a correct statement you would have to say "Mine is at least based on a deity whom I believe is real." Until you can grasp the concepts of proof and truth and belief you won't ever be taken seriously by those of us who understand what those words mean.

My belief in my Gods and Goddesses is just as fervent as yours, and just as valid. I just don't cloud my mind with meaningless religious rhetoric. The word "belief" doesn't frighten me.

The christians might lose their faith if they have to admit something they believe is real is not. I don;t know how to say this eloquently, but Havoc when one believes in something so much it is real to them saying its only in their mind wont work. Its not hypocritical but u are trying to say to him he can't believe its real. Now I am not teaming with anyone but his staement was correct to him what he said is not very nice and almost down right rude but it is correct to him and no matter what u say he will not give up his beliefs like u wont give up yours.

I am only saying this because as I witness all these pots I see maybe not hate but something along thos e lines on both sides and it doesn't seem right. Take a breath guys take a chill pill religion is there for u and is ur own personnal thing I think its better not to debate religion to this extent and try and degrade any religion. I am not attacking anyone either, this post was just the most recent, but I really think its going too far and has passed being friendly and one thing both religions teach is being nice to our fellow man.

i have told you repeatedly i dont think i am better than you. you have some sort of complex, some sort of issue that makes you think otherwise. i am not sure why you dont listen to what i say, but your constant attacks and deliberate twisting of my beliefs have earned you a special place under my ignore category. i dont have enough patience to deal with you. congratulations. now lets only hope my curiosity doesn't overwhelm me to see what sort of hoo ha you come up with in the future.

No, if you don't know that God exists, you are an agnostic.

If you don't believe that God exists, you are an atheist.
