Greetings
I used to be a wild man rocker dude, I love to party, girls and loud music, my parents were Christians and that was how I heard about God and his son.

But I was playing in bands drinking like a fish, people knew me and I felt on top of the world, doing my own thing but there was a heavyness in my heart, somthing was missing but I didn't know what.

Week went by and man I felt so heavy like the world was on a chain and I was draging it behind me, my heart seemed to speed up and jump and one day I just knew it was Jesus knocking at my heart asking if he could come in.

I said yes, from that very second I stopped everything I did. This is why I know Jesus is the truth and everything in Scripture is true, he changed me and inside screams out when it hears truth. Truth is the ear by which Christians hear the instructions of God.

I can say with 1 million percent Jesus is all he said he was.

Come to him and see for you self.
Rev Malone
Amen brother. I hear ya.

I am an athiest, and I was wondering

  1. How do you know there is a God?
  2. Why do people belive so strongly in someone/something(God) that they cannot see?
  3. Why do people belive in someone/somthing (God) that has made this world so cruel?
Just some questions I've always had, and would like to see what kind of replies I get back, so then maybe I can understand those who beilve in some kind of God better.

chloeobrien,

Is there room for one more reply within your post here? I would like to give you a reply if you wish.

Thank you,

1. How do you know there is a God?
The reason I know there is a God is the human body and the creation of new life. I mean, the chance that humans (and other life forms) "just happened" is so astronomically small. Someone had to create us. And the miracle of two cells coming together to form a new life is just mind-boggling (at least to me)!

2. Why do people belive so strongly in someone/something (God) that they cannot see?
I may not be able to "see" God directly, but I see His creations all around me. Also, I feel His presence most of the time.

3. Why do people belive in someone/somthing (God) that has made this world so cruel?
God doesn't want the world to be cruel, He wants the world to be full of love; but He gave each of His creations (including angels) free will to do what they want. Some have chosen to do mean/cruel/wrong things in rebellion against God. Why does God allow evil? Because He wants us to choose to do good and to love Him, others and ourselves.

  1. How do you know there is a God?
Well, this is a great question, and here's my answer. A lot of people say "How can a God just be created? it makes no sense. there is no way he just mysteriously appeared." and i agree.. but also, how has the world just mysteriously appeared? people will say big bang.. but how did the stuff that the big bang used appear? it's an unanswered question.

I believe there is a God, because how can people make all of this up? like seriously.. there are records of a Jesus. In the Dead Sea they have found really really really old parts of the bible. What explains all of the biblcal miracles that happen? like when ppl hear Christ and such. Or like this mystery happened in my family, and I swear I'm not lying!! there was this picture of the Virgin Mary, and it had fallen and all the glass broke. Well, my ma went to go get a broom to sweep it up.. when she came back, all of the glass was put together!! isn't that amazing?? and i promise to you uner my life this happened. anyways, and ppl always see jesus like in their sleep, or they will get rid of grease and pour it in the grass.. the grass that the grease hit dies, and the grease just so happened to spill making something look like jesus.. or clouds of the cross and such. or the toast that shows Jesus in it.. there is so much stuff to prove that God is real!!

  1. Why do people belive so strongly in someone/something(God) that they cannot see?
Good question.. you don't have to see it to believe it.. just remember that!!

  1. Why do people belive in someone/somthing (God) that has made this world so cruel?
God did not do that my sister.. The Devil and Adam and Eve did. God made this world perfect. but Satan tempted Adam and Eve, and therefore sin was created. Although God has so much power, let's not forget Satan still has power.

Well concider thisBuddists exist because of the sole reason, Buddha existed. Noone dares questioning that - scientifically.Confucianists exist, because of the sole reason confucious existed. Noone dares questioning that - scientifically.Raelians exist, because of the sole reason, rael exist. Noone dares questioing that.Christians exist, because of the sole reason Christ existed. Only a few dares questioning that out of their contradictive arrogance. Why do you think Judaism exist and the circumcicion of the jews?Because following the mainstream, we need to conclude that every religion needs a founder. We have no founder of Judaism.. if not God is applyed in here.So tao existedMuahmmed existedconfucious existedbuddah existed. The son of God existed. But not God.Nevermind asking which religion you should follow,We have talked about it before in another thread. Not you and me. but me and some wiccan.Allah is a pervertion of the Judeo-christian God. Allah damands us to save ourselves inorder for us to earn his mercy.-Jesus do it for free.---Buddha damands us to save ourselves inorder to enter nirvana.-Jesus gives access to heaven for free. he saves us for free.---There is no need for a saviour in other religions, including judaism. because all they do is teaches you to save yourslef---Jesus do it for free-

Well, I don't know that there is a God. I believe that there is. Faith for the Christian is a dynamic of reality wherein God draws you to Himself. It will not necessarily be because of emprical evidence that people want to acquire so often in our modern world. It will simply resonate with you. You will have to practice it in order to see that it is right. It is a relational existence, not so much an assent to proof.

We can't prove things about God.

As far as this world being cruel. We do live in a painful world. God built humanity with the capacity for pain and death. We choose to sever our connections with Him and the result is often social chaos. Some things, however, just happen. Like an earthquake for instance. We are affected by these things because God allows us to realized the fraily of our humanity, or mortality. Without Him, there really is no hope.

How do you know there is a God?
I'm sure there's many reasons for many people. I'm sure everyone has different reasons, but here's mine.

First, I've always sensed Him, and He's always been watching over me, not from heaven above but right beside me. He listens to me and talks to me, He holds me when I cry, He makes me smile and dance, He gives me presents on my birthday, He loves me and no one in their right mind would, lol. I can sometimes see, sometimes hear, sometimes feel, sometimes sense, and sometimes know Him. He answers 100% of my prayers, however crazy.

cool example that happened recently: For the last like, long while (6 months? less? more?) I prayed silently that I wanted to dress nice. I didn't like my current clothes and wanted nice looking clothes, I wanted to look good. On my birthday God told my brother's fiance, who was completely oblivious to this prayer, to take me shopping on my birthday to buy me new clothes and to help me pick out stuff that would look good. That happened ^_^. I've never told anyone about this prayer, never made hints about what I wanted, nor do I dress so horribly bad to where it's obvious, it was a secret prayer that no one knew about but me and God. And it was answered because God answers my prayers. ^_^ It was so fun too, so cool, and now I look great!

That's just one in a million of my answered prayers. You could say "It was a coincidence that your brother's fiance suggested an idea that you wanted." but I wouldn't say that because the odds of that happening a million times wouold not just be more unlikely than the chance that God is real, but would make me one of the luckiest people in this world. lol. I've made prayers from small things like "I just want to feel better cause I feel sad right now" to big things like "Let this person's physical illness disappear forever." All answered. God is alive and well, and He's more real than you or me.

Why do people belive so strongly in someone/something(God) that they cannot see?

Someone. He's a person, and to say you can't see him is true, but it's also untrue. There's a world of difference between your eyes and your spiritual eyes. Your ears and your spiritual ears. All your physical senses and all your spiritual senses. I've seen God before, I've heard him before, I've felt him before, I've sensed him before. Many many many many many times. In all honesty, once you get to know God for awhile, you can't really say you don't see him, because you do, on more than just one level too. You have to work your spirtual body just like your physical body. If you don't work your muscles, you'll never develop. Just look how babies develop, it's practically the same with our spiritual body when we first get saved and begin our friendship with God.

Why do people belive in someone/somthing (God) that has made this world so cruel?

God makes this world so great. All the cruel stuff is because of our free will. I'd much rather have a world of darkness where God comes to be the light and save the world, heal it, and love it, than for Him to make us all robots to where we don't have free will and are just machines. God created us to love us, but he also gave us free-will because he didn't want to make us robots. He made us like Him, with free choice. He is here to help, heal, save, love, and make life on earth Heaven. It's not his fault the world is cruel, but He is the reason the world is so great. And afterall, it's not like the cruel world is going to be here forever, we live an average 70-80 years, and in all honesty that is not a long time at all, it's very short. I'm sure God cries over how cruel the world is, but it's the price of free-will. I'm a sinner, not a robot. But I can do a killer robot dance move. *does the robot*

Those are actually good questions and I'm going to try my best to answer. Firstly, you cannot see God but you see Him through people. you believe in the wind right? Just because u cant c it doesn't mean its not there.

  1. I don't, to be honest. If I found out conclusive proof, somehow, that there is no God, then I would just keep acting my life the way it is.
  2. See previous response.
  3. Because it's our choice. Without free will, then we couldn't be truly happy; but with free will comes the possibility for... this.

  1. How do you know there is a God?
I know there is a God because He has helped me in my roughest of times. I know there is a God because I've seen him work through others. I know there is a God because He is just plain the best explanation for how everything works that I've ever gotten.
  1. Why do people belive so strongly in someone/something(God) that they cannot see?
(to give you a break from the wind analagy) I can't see the chair I'm sitting on right now without turning my head, but I don't need to (turn my head that is) to know that it's there.
  1. Why do people belive in someone/somthing (God) that has made this world so cruel?
Because even though the world's so cruel, there's good in it too. Sometimes God creates tragedies; it isn't to punish us, I can gaurentee you that much. If the world God made was perfect, how would you know anything different? If all the world was eternally encased in light, how would we know darkness to compare it to?

Hope these help (if at all). Contact me if you have any more questions!

I think you should go check out the book by Dr. Preston Jones called Is Belief in God Good, Bad or Irrelevant? A Professor and a Punk Rocker Discuss Science, Religion, Naturalism & Christianity. He is a professor at the college I attend and has compiled this collection of e-mail exchanges between him and Dr. Greg Graffin, who is the frontman of Bad Religion, the band. They talk about so much stuff that I'd butcher the book by summarizing it for you. I picked my copy up on Amazon.com for about $11.00.

  2. Why do people belive so strongly in someone/something(God) that they cannot see?
  3. Why do people belive in someone/somthing (God) that has made this world so cruel?
1) Why I believe God exists:
I cannot prove that God exists. I, however, believe that there is a multitude of evidence pointing to the fact that he does exist. Based on this evidence, I am convinced that He exists and is according to His description in the Bible. This evidence is based upon the origin of the universe, the design of the universe, man's sense of morality, the cry for meaning in life, the life of Christ, and the marvel of Scripture. Design-wise, did you know that each human DNA strand contains enough information to fill 600,000 pages? Fred Hoyle, an astronomer, compared these odds of life arising from non-purseful processes as probable as a 747 jetliner arising from a tornado raging over a junkyard. As far as this is concerned, I believe that it takes far more faith to be an atheist.

2) Why I believe so strongly:
I believe very strongly in God according to the Bible because of two reasons: rational and relational. Rationally, all the evidence points to God and to Christ. If you want more information on this, just ask, but there is a TON of evidence in favor of Christianity and that is evidence I do not want to ignore.
Relationally, I know God is real and that He loves me because I can feel his love and His presence. Although this cannot be tested by the scientific method, can any relationship be tested by the scientific method? I believe so strongly because He has changed my life, and that's a fact.

3) I do not believe in a God that made everything cruel. WE screwed up. WE made the world cruel. WE sinned and departed from the good path God intended us to take. Why did he not stop us? Why did he not force us to be good? Because He gave us free will. Because of this free will, we have chosen to depart from His ways. We choose to sin (sin is all the bad things people do like lie, cheat, steal, etc.). Everyone has an innate knowledge of God, their creator, but WE CHOOSE to fill our lives with junk instead of being full of Him. God gave us free will because He wanted us to come to Him on our own.

Thank you for your questions, and I encourage you to keep asking questions. I will pray for you, and feel free to PM me if you have any questions!

I am an athiest, and I was wondering

  1. How do you know there is a God?
I am comforted by something that is unseen.
You can call it a ghost, you can say that it may be a figment of my imagination, you might even say that
I am crazy....but yet I am comforted by an unseen force and I call it GOD.
  1. Why do people belive so strongly in someone/something(God) that they cannot see?
The comfort that I received allows me to feel strongly about what I call GOD.
  1. Why do people belive in someone/somthing (God) that has made this world so cruel?
What I call GOD takes me out of the cruelty's of this world that we (man) create and provides comfort for me. When I'm confronted with the tragadies that exist and I come home and pray to GOD for the care of myself and others, I am comforted I feel as if GOD has handled these things, so I'm feeling something that a non beleiver can not feel. I call it beleiving in a GOD that can comfort me and it works for me, so if I get though my life 80% of the time feeling comforted and at the end of my life there is no GOD, then what exactly have I lost. Seems to me I've gain a lot more then I've lost.

1. I know that there is a God because the universe is in so much balance an order. Everything from the stars to the human body seems to be "planned out" and far more complex than anything humans can create.

2. I believe in God because I see what he has created. That is enough evidence for me.

3. Cruel is relative. to you the world may seem cruel. To Bill Gates, the world may seem pretty dandy.

Dear Child,

I pray to my GOD that he will send to you the answer you seek. The FACT is that you are a non believer who is seeking answers in a CF. So I will now pray
FATHER GOD, SEND TO THIS CHILD YOUR SPIRIT. YOUR WORD IS WRITTEN IN HER HEART. OPEN HER EARS THAT SHE MAY HEAR. MAY SHE FEEL YOUR LOVE FOR HER. MAY SHE OPEN HER EYES THAT SHE MAY SEE, HIDE YOUR WORD IN HER HEART. AMEN

Hello friend, i am so glad that the spirit inside you is searching for truth. i would like to give you an answer by sharing my testamony with you. i have been married 11 years and i am only 30. When i first met my wife she was a so-called Christian (someone who says they are Christian and probably even goes to church, but they do not have a personal relationship with Jesus through prayer and knowledge of The Blble.) So anyway, it was easy for me, a non-believer, to turn her from Christianity, which i did. Well a few years past and we moved to Las Vegas, i had a high paying job and we had all the material things we could have imagined, yet we were still depressed and dead inside. Well, we met some people who got us into satanism, and i mean we really got into it, i even legally changed my middle name to Lucifer. Well more time went buy and we continued as satanists, hating everyone and hating espescially Christianity. On April 4th 2002 i woke up, still satanic, went to work, no one said a word to me about Jesus or God. I came home, still satanic, and later that evening i was sitting on the couch and all the sudden an amazing feeling filled my body, i started saying things in english that were words i would never say. My wife went to the top of our closet and grabbed The Bible, which was covered in dust, she handed it to me, i opened it randomly to a page in the New Testament and on that page was almost word for word what i had just said, and that was amazing considering that i had never read even 3 words from The Bible before. But what was even more amazing for me was that when His Spirit came upon me He showed me all my past before me...the times i was alone, or when i hurt people, or when i spoke against Him.....all my past He showed me that He was always there beside me, with me, and that His love for us is so Endless. Needless to say since then i have dedicated my entire life to Him. And let me be honest to tell you i can see Him through the miracles He works in my life, i can feel His presence within me and i know that He is real because He chose me, i didnt choose Him! I hope and pray that you will come to know His Endless Love and His wonderful Peace. God Bless You! amen. :)

I would like to address question # 2.

First I will say that there are those who will say I am delusional! But I have seen the hand of GOD!

This was about 20 years ago. My car would not start one morning so I had a neighbor jump start the car, I went in and got my sons, my younger son was awake so he started walking out to the car I was carring my older son who was asleep. I told J. to wait for me at the gate, he ran out and jumped into the car dropped the shifter in drive, hit a mailbox, and a car. I cried "Lord Please" and I saw the hand of God reach into the car through the roof, and turn my son face down into the seat, the car then hit a fence. My son was not hurt. He was 3 years old and said "mama, whose big hand was that?"

So you can say that I am delusional if you like. But I have seen the hand of God!
