Was flipping through my big NLT "Life Application Bible" last night and came across this verse, Amos 7:7:

This is what he showed me: The Lord was standing by a wall that had been built true to plumb, with a plumb line in his hand.
Since the Father is spirit, and has no physical body, is the prophet seeing Jesus in this verse? Are the passages in the OT that refer to seeing God "face to face" refering to seeing Jesus also (although of course those at the time wouldn't know that) ... like for example Exodus 33:11 and Genesis 32:30?

Sorry if this is a totally off-base interpretation :) Just curious is all :)

The incidences of people seeing the Lord face to face, is generally known as a Christophony.
The verse you mention and the previous verse mention two aspects of God.
V.6 LORD, v.7 Lord.
LORD refers to Jehovah, the name that was not even pronounced, the other is Adonai.
Not a lot of help I guess.
Macca. :preach:

Since the Father is spirit, and has no physical body,...

God is spirit (John 4:24), properly translated, not "a spirit".

God does not have a flesh body.

But to say He does not have a physical body is innaccurate.

In Genesis 18, the Lord Himself (before the text was altered by the Sopherim) sat down with two angels "and they did eat" (v. 8) meat and drank buttermilk.

In the wilderness, the children ate "angels' food" (Psa. 78:25). The food that sustains "angelic" bodies sustains ours as well, as we were made in the image of the Elohim.

On the other hand, if Amos 7:7 is a vision, we may choose not to read too much literal into it anyway.

I think it is like this... The Lord in this verse is referring to Jehovah... as a sort of metaphysical concept. In other words... If you see a man, it is a man, but if you 'KNOW' it is the Lord, then in that circumstance, Jehovah is represented by this person...

hmmm... I know what I mean anyway.

Whether a vision or close encounter of the God kind ... a word of prophecy from one of the minor prophets [ some to Judah , some to Israel ; kingdom divided ].

back in the day ... Same thought :
Daniel - mene mene upshairn tarsin - measured and found wanting
Angel and Ezekiel and wonderful stream - measure , Ezekiel 47
Zerchariah - plummet and Zerubbabal measure the city
run a search on plummet www.blueletterbible.org and sift through what you find ...

Or now ... hey , brother , let's take stock of the heart of man ; of the effectiveness of the church ; or the return on my investment [ as with the parable of the talents ] ; or I know your works and have this against you - Revelations chapter 2 & 3 .... same context = you my minister / saint need to do some thing about this problem I am showing to you , laying out before you

It is true that the Father is spirit, but so are angels. Angelic appearances were seen by OT people, and God also revealed Himself to people in a number of different visible manifestations (technically called a theophany).

Some Christians do identify certain of these visible manifestations (such as the angel of the LORD appearances) as the Christ, but in a pre-incarnate form. It is necessary to say the pre-incarnate Christ because Scripture (and Christian doctrine) maintain that Christ became flesh when Jesus was born.
