The ones the invitation wasn't suppose to go out to.
So everyone who isn't her family, then? Is that racism or just nepotism?

Who should she have invited to dinner with her family, that would meet with your approval?

What you're really doing with "we're all racists" is just trying to get an emotional response out of people.
No. It's an acknowledgement of the tribalism that humans evolved for survival.

That didn't get turned off because affirmative actions and martin luther king. Even if it's latent it still exists.

Don't know where you got that from. A search on Ceallaigh should have brought up O'Kelley an Irish surname.

Kelly is a girls name. As is Kayleigh or Kayley.

The Harvard-educated mother of two is now at the center of America’s never ending tussle with race and identity when she accidentally invited every member of her City Council to a party intended solely for Council-members who are not white. Wu’s actions would almost be comical if they weren’t so disingenuous, if not downright dangerous.

Clearly this wasn't thought out. No white people at the party?

Who will be the designated driver?

Can you report the op for not sticking to the topic of his own op? Who knows...

Why do you think this story is newsworthy now?

Are you opposed to people calling out racist public officials??

The Democratic Party wouldn't shut up about cops they believed were secretly racist for 6 years....this isn't some secret. She's openly racist.

This wasn't a one off, set up to create division or act as a some secret non white cabal. This was a group that had been set up many years before. It was an ongoing annual event. It was Wu's turn to host it. It cannot have been a secret for over ten years. Why the sudden pearl clutching?

I'm not sure why you're arguing that this group of racists has been gathering for years and that's supposed to be better.

Also, since she doesn't name this group....I'm inclined to think she made up the idea it's been gathering for years.

"I've been a part of a group that gathers, representing elected officials of color across all different levels of government in Massachusetts," she said. "A group that has been in place for more than a decade, and the opportunity to create a space for people to celebrate and rotate who hosts."

What's the name of the group?

Is the president of Harvard a member lol?

I think that's a reasonable position.

For what? What position are you referring to?

They obviously have discussed amongst themselves any difficulty they might have had in government because of their racial background and done so on many occasions.

She's the mayor...in a party that literally celebrates being a non-white woman like its an achievement. She has more privilege than the white people she excluded.

So I don't see a problem in taking the opportunity in doing the same at a social event.

You don't see a problem with a bunch of white elected officials holding a whites only party?

Seems pretty racist either way you slice it.

I wouldn't expect to have been invited and after their get-together my first question wouldn't have been 'Why wasn't I invited?' but rather 'How did it go?'

Well you should have some self respect. It's OK to be white.

If that quote above had been the only thing reported, then no-one would have batted an eyelid. If reported at all. But you don't sell newspapers by saying some people of colour in Massachusetts have a long term group set up to discuss their positionin government and they had a party.

I doubt you sell papers anywhere really.

But d'you know - the quote took some time digging up. Almost all reports are carbon copies of the way the first newspaper had decided to report it. Lazy journalism.

Even lazier was leaving out the name of the group.

It was same for black kids being kept out of white schools, which had gone on for a lot longer. Joe Biden and others who stood against busing the black kids to white schools too may have wondered what the fuss was. Segregating people by race is wrong and unlawful.

She is a government official...and this is clearly a party intended for government officials.....and I suppose it's very technically a basis for a discrimination complaint about a hostile work environment.

You need to remember though....she's been encouraged to be racist by her party's ideology for years now. In the minds of those attending...they're just doing what they are expected to by Democratic Party leaders.

She probably doesn't even think about how racist it is to exclude her fellow elected officials based on skin color. The political left decided sometime in the past 10 years that the best way to deal with racism is to obsess about race and discriminate against white people.

She might not hold any anger towards white people at all....she could just as easily be a spineless coward.

I think the real question here is if she's smart enough to be mayor. After all, the easy way to avoid the controversy of outing yourself as a racist in this instance would have been to just let the white people come to the party.

Hard to sympathize with someone who is making such a deliberate effort to out themselves as racist.

Why are you having such a hard time comprehending that people in high palaces want as much power and control over society as possible?
Interesting typo(?)

No, it's actually this topic. You are seemingly complaining about this now. But you haven't over the last 2 or 3 years. Because nobody told you about it. Why not? Because nobody was interested.

Why wouldn't people be interested in racist government officials?

It's the same group. Same people give or take. They talk about the same things. Nobody thought to complain about it before. And still nobody involved has. Yet you are now bringing this up as a big thing. Why is that?

Public service. You may not realize it...but many dumb people here in the US aren't aware that you can be a racist as a racial minority. They think that power and privilege have something to do with it (or claimed to think that) and they are probably stunned to see a Asian woman with power and privilege being so openly racist.
