Glad to see the positive feedback for a decision we felt was needed to offer a real balance here. Once the big announcement was made, we were swamped with PMs offering advice / feedback. We (myself, Constance, and MNPHysicist) made the call to make this ammendment. This is a good move that we can all feel good about.

I have no problem calling "Nicene" "Orthodox" and Non-Nicene "Unorthodox." I'm a very unorthodox person. So I take no offense... but my faith is EXTREMELY important to me, and I find it slanderous when people claim that I'm "not a real christian because I have a different understanding than them." That's not for any person to decide (read the bible account of not removing the straw from your brother's eye until there isn't a support beam in your own).

But, how will "promotion" be defined?

It's certainly reasonable to ask people not to say "Hey, you should leave your Nicene Church and come to mine"... but what will happen when someone says "After reading John 17, how can you believe in a trinity?"

Are we free to say "I believe this because of this" and discuss that? Or is discussing non-Nicene ways of thinking "promoting a cult?"


I CERTAINLY appreciate the fact that you guys are ACTUALLY discussing this... keeping in mind members you personally may not agree with... that gets you guys a LOT of respect in my book. I'm willing to stay long enough to see how this plays out considering there's a POSSIBILITY I'll still have a place to compare ideas...

I have to agree. Freedom of speech is accorded to both constitution and law. So are we to think that if a point raised in a Forum discussion on a subject matter connected to Nicene Theology that informs there is an alternate viewpoint to the matter in question that it will be deleted the Forum member given a roasting by a Mod via E-mail? If so I'm all for it, so as long as when non-Nicene Theology members are posting in their Forums the same rules will apply to Nicene Theology Forum members. Then it will be a level playing field. Or it will divide Christians still further and deeper apart. What will it be?

It was aptly discribed to me:

Nicene theology=orthodox... mainstream. Which it is, everyone can agree to that.

Non-Nicene theology=unorthodox... not mainstream... everyone can agree to that.

Both HONESTLY try to follow their understanding of Christ's teachings... we disagree, but both are trying, which is all either can do.

Because non-Nicene's are in the minority... we're the "unorthodox" ones... and as long as "Orthodox Christianity" is defined as the majority dictates... it shouldn't be offensive to allow us an "unorthodox Christian" section without resorting to some of the insults that have been in the past.
