Well... I AM German, too. And I can tell you that most of the stuff that this person talked about - in this or their reality - is never "taught" in schools in Germany. Nor is "learning about WW2 a huge part" of anyone's "upbringing" here.

It's one of the fascinating real differences between cultures. Germans are taught about the Nazis, about Hitler, about the Holocaust. And, yes, that WW2 happened because Hitler invaded Poland. And then some general stuff.

But the focus is in sociology and politics. In contrast to the U.S. approach, where it is about "the war". Who fought where, and which campaigns and battles and against which army and how much of a bunch of heroes the valiant soldiers of America were.

So this person hasn't heard about a lot of stuff. About "the axis" (did Germany fight all alone in their reality? Who did they fight, if not "over thirty countries"? Why was this conflict called "WORLD WAR"?)
They don't know that Italy was involved. They don't know what the "Fall of France" means. They haven't heard about the agreement with the Soviet Union. They didn't know about the Japanese-Chinese part of the war. (Why did they think Japan was at war at all?)
Etc.

They admit to being ignorant about a lot of stuff... and they can't provide alternatives.

See... I AM German also. I am also a studied historian. And I can tell you that "not knowing" something does not mean it didn't happen.

I am saying in my timeline, no one could cross either way, in this timeline the west could cross back and forth through checkpoints. In my timeline, there were no checkpoints, just guards with guns that would shoot ANYONE that tried to cross in any direction.

Also Australia has a union jack flag now, used to be a kangaroo on their flag. My old timeline, prisoners were dumped on Australia and formed their own country, a fact that fascinated me quite a ton and that I repeatedly revisited. But that did not happen anymore, now most Australians were descended from regular British immigrants or from other countries but not from prisoners.

You have to research this yourself
I'm trying to, but you, as my source, are not forthcoming. I don't claim to have been in a different timeline, the only sources I can try are those who make such claims. Now, please, stop prevaricating and give us a specific difference.

At least you won’t
No, we can't. There is nothing to access, nothing to test, nothing to evaluate.

We have no access to "different timelines" to make comparisons, we have no way to read people's minds, we have no way to verify these claims.

This "retconning" stuff is conveniently there to remove all testability. There is no way to distinguish if some claim made is an error, a lie or indeed something real. Everyone can make any sort of claims, and you will accept or deny them only based on how much you like it.

That's not "science". That's not "truth". That is the poster child for "personal incredulity".
