  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The attack in Charlottesville looks like someone deliberately attacking the protesters, not someone getting panicked by people swarming the car and driving through them in an attempt to escape.
Yeah, I got your meaning after a few moments. That's why I edited my post, sadly too late.

Yea we just don't know yet, they aren't exactly a fountain of information early on because they don't want to divulge prejudicial information.
So better to propagate the propably false story and cause people to send an innocent man death threats (if not worse)?

The way I'm getting this the racists had already been told to disperse and were leaving. Some of the counter protesters when the car struck were chanting, 'who's streets, our streets', celebrating what I'm sure they considered a victory.

The Charlottesville police said that the victim was killed when the car rammed into the group, and that 19 were injured. The victim was not identified, nor was the driver of the car, who was apprehended. (3 Dead, 35 Injured After Day of White Supremacy Rallies in Charlottesville, Variety)
We don't know for sure the identity of the driver yet, but it doesn't look like it was one of the racists. The other two deaths were a helicopter crash. I woke up this morning worried about this and I've been following it in between playing online chess and playing with my grand kids.
How can you say "it doesn't look like it was one of the racists"? Given that we have no idea who did it?

Your source you pushed tried to claim it was some dude from Michigan, when the license plate of the car is from Ohio, and as another poster posted, the man accused by your source is apparently at a wedding across the country. Honestly your source could be up for a libel suit or something similar (defamation of character, damage to reputation, etc.). I know I'd be suing the holy heck out of them if they did that crap with me.

Usually when you get one of these lone wolf attacks you find the person had issues, most of which have nothing to do with the issues being protested.

It just sounds like someone is a Alt-Right Sympathizer. Somehow it is unfathomable a White Supremacist can plow through protesters who are all were coincidentally anti-Racists

I don't know but early on I was hearing he wasn't one of 'unite the right' protestors. It turns out that twitter feed I linked to is a false flag and at this point we just don't know.

Only if people saw that way about Muslims.
Well that guy that shot up the gay night club in Florida, Omar Mir Seddique Mateen, was radicalized online. I guess he was kind of religious but his wife said she didn't think religion had much to do with what he did.

There was a press conference a couple hours ago, and they already had the guy in custody at the time. If it really was one of the alt-right guys, I'm surprised they haven't already announced it.
I don't think they can, when your talking about felony assault and murder they have to be careful to protect his rights. My guess is it will be a couple of days before we know for sure why this guy did this but I suspect he will turn out to be a head case.

Trump Takes Heat for Blaming Violence at Charlottesville Rally on ‘Many Sides’

Mark Herring, Virginia's attorney general, immediately tweeted that the "violence, chaos, and apparent loss of life in Charlottesville is not the fault of 'many sides.' It is racists and white supremacists.

Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah, the longest serving Republican senator in history, said on Twitter: "We should call evil by its name. My brother didn't give his life fighting Hitler for Nazi ideas to go unchallenged here at home."

Republican New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie condemned the "racism and violence of white nationalists" and said "Everyone in leadership must speak out." Republican Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona called out "white supremacy" in condemning bigotry; and Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa referred to white nationalists and called the violence "homegrown terrorism."

Read the article, many more Republicans are calling it what it is, they not afraid.
David Duke, once grand wizard of the kkk, tweeted to Trump....

Duke responded to Trump's earlier statements on Twitter in a series of his own tweets, reminding him "who put you in the presidency."

Per WaPo:

The car is registered to 20-year-old James Alex Fields of Ohio, according to vehicle registration records reviewed by The Washington Post. Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail Superintendent Martin Kumer told The Post that a man with the same name and age was booked Saturday on suspicion of second-degree murder, malicious wounding, failure to stop for an accident involving a death, and hit and run. Kumer said Fields is being held without bail.

And I doubt he's left-wing:
Fields registered as a Republican in 2016, public records reviewed by The Daily Beast show.
